Formed in 2022, Finland's NACHTGNAWER have recorded a demo, a collaborative split with WulfSeer, and even a live album - but so far, a more extended record has not arrived. Nevertheless, their pedigree is substantial, numbering concurrent members of labelmates LICHT DES URTEILS, SACRIFICIUM CARMEN, RIIVAUS, CORAXUL, and NÔIDVA among others. As expected, NACHTGNAWER unfurl Finnish filth of a most millennial variety...but on evidence of the new mini-album Medieval Devourer, there's more to their charred cauldron than expected. For one, the "medieval" extension / appellation certainly applies here; for however restless and rabid their execution may be, there's an alternately melancholic / triumphant aspect to their riffing that suggests an acute understanding of France's notorious Concilium crew. For another, the haunting tubular-bells interlude "Process of Procession" splits the record into two equally satisfying halves, with the first bearing the bite of the vampiric - the aforementioned collaboration was titled Unholy Vampyric Supremacy, after all - and the latter melting into the heavy metal of the epic "Stench of the Ancient Towers" and the quick-hitting "Desecrator." What's more, NACHTGNAWER apply the subtlest of synth in spots, furthering underlining those ancient links. This is the Medieval Devourer!

BORKNAGAR stay true to metal’s origins by letting their spirit guide them. Starting with their self-titled beginnings back in 1996, these Norwegians pushed past the boundaries set by traditional black metal. Over the course of the past 30 years, the band’s domain has come to include prog, neofolk and darkly enchanting hard rock, capped by major international tours and chart placements across the world. Eleven albums into their storied journey, they reached another creative peak on ’True North’ in 2019.
‘True North’ found BORKNAGAR at a crossroad. Half of the band’s lineup had turned over, but their longstanding members kept them on a dizzying upward trajectory. Whether picking or riffing, founder and guitarist Øystein Brun led the way, lighting a path for the versatile ICS Vortex (Arcturus, ex-Dimmu Borgir) to return to the mic. His thunderous cleans shine amidst the warm misty keys of hit single “Up North”, while his screams cut through the more hellish passages of “The Fire That Burns”. Even when hounded by “Voices”, keyboardist Lars Nedland’s resounding chorus resonated far and wide.
Loudwire named the album one of the best of 2019.

Recorded in 2002 and considered their first official release, this 2-track demo is the prologue to DARKSPACE’s first album.
It offers a similar musical experience to "Dark Space I", with dark and oppressive atmospheres thanks to a raw sound and more primitive production.
