So, the weirdest thing happened…MusicReview received The Wolves of Avalon’s Carrion Crows over Camlan out of the blue, and we have no freaking clue how it got here. Nonetheless, we were quite curious when we saw that it was termed British Celtic Pagan Metal – really, how can you not be excited to hear something like this?
Plain and simple, Carrion Crows over Camlan is a recipe of black metal and Celtic music, celebrating the concept of the British Celtic Arthurian Age. Undoubtedly, the album needs to be played from beginning to end, in order for you to understand the concept fully, but if you give it time (and look for more than just hit singles) you’ll probably end up loving this release just for its visual imagery alone. The mental imagery painted, through the dark art of metal and elements of folk, is outstanding and you cannot help but be drawn into the battlefields as if you were defending old British pride against other tribes.
Feeling more like a soundtrack than just 12 individual tracks, the gloomy, dark atmosphere of Carrion Crows over Camlan portrays the period around 500AD and the Dark Ages gorgeously and expressively. Don’t be surprised if you’re talking about ravens, sieges, spirits and lost gods by the end of this album. It’s a terrific concept and an altogether honest release.
