"Attraverso una solida struttura definibile come “ modern progressive” Ihsahn (in quasi totale solitudine, visto che batteria a parte si preoccupa di ogni strumento) sviluppa ulteriormente e allarga a dismisura l’ impronta musicale dal timbro malinconico, oscuro e a tratti brutale che tutti ben conosciamo.
L’andamento da opera sinfonica che la musica di Ihsahn ha sempre mostrato, fin dai tempi degli Emperor, assume qui la forma di un vero e proprio concerto neo-classico, mai davvero legato a un formato canzone standard, ma impegnato ad inseguire la pura emozione in quello che appare come un fluire a tratti al limite dell’improvvisazione.

Se oggi, dopo tanti anni e tanti ascolti, ha ancora senso innamorarsi di un’opera musicale, certamente “Das Seelenbrechen” entra di diritto in tale preziosa e rara categoria.
