Released in 1998, 'Alternative 4', Anathema's fourth studio album, quickly became the band's best-selling and most highly regarded release to date.
Containing evocative atmospheric passages and emotional Rock anthems, Alternative 4 represented a giant progression from the band's previous work and hinted at the massive changes to come.
Displaying a more mature sound than the band's earlier recordings, this is the album that gave birth to the more conceptual approach, that the band took further on such albums as a 'A Fine Day To Exit' and 'A Natural Disaster'.
Duncan Patterson was a major writing contributor to the album. This was the last album to feature the bassist (who went on to form Antimatter & then band Alternative 4)
Limited heavyweight 180gm Crystal Clear & White Marble vinyl edition.
A Vision of A Dying Embrace captures a night of spellbinding Doom Metal magic from an Anathema live show in Krakow, Poland, in 1996.
Whilst still reasonably early in the career of the band, and with rhythm guitarist Vincent Cavanagh taking on vocal duties only relatively recently for the sublime ‘The Silent Enigma’ opus, the set contained a whole selection of now-established classics from Anathema’s first two studio albums and ‘Pentecost III’ EP, with epics like ‘A Dying Wish’, ‘Sleepless’, and ‘Mine is Yours’ captured in their purest and rawest form in the live setting.
Anathema has spent the vast majority of their career making music that defies description. As part of the “Peaceville three”, along with Paradise Lost & My Dying Bride, Anathema have carved a strong legacy since their inception at the turn of the 1990s, to become a widely revered & respected band within both the metal world & beyond, as their sound & compositions progressed from doom/death metal into more rock & progressive territory with each subsequent release, becoming one of the UK’s most cherished and critically acclaimed rock bands.

2017's The Optimist is Anathema's first album since 2014's spellbinding Distant Satellites and contains the band's darkest, most challenging and unexpected material.
Recorded in Winter 2016 at Attica Studio in Donegal and Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, Super Furry Animals) at the helm. Doogan's influence is instantly tangible as for the first time in years Anathema recorded as a live band for an album, capturing an energy normally only present on stage. A technique that should be welcomed by fans aware of the band's supreme live power - previously captured on the celebrated concert film, Universal.
CD in digipak with 16 page booklet.
The Crestfallen was Anathema's debut release for Peaceville and contained re-worked tracks from the legendary All Faith Is Lost demo in addition to new material.
Although sounding very different from what Anathema became, The Crestfallen clearly shows a band with an exceptional grasp of melody and atmosphere.
The brooding doom-heavy compositions and poetic landscapes effortlessly fluctuate between brutality (accentuated by the 'growled' vocals of then singer Darren White) and beauty on tracks such as The Sweet Suffering and the now classic They Die.
The Crestfallen set the stage for Anathema's debut full-length LP Serenades, which further expanded upon the band's singular approach and displayed a body of influences that stretched well beyond the confines of Metal.
The Crestfallen was recorded at Academy Studios (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, etc) in 1992, and was produced by Keith Appleton.
This edition is presented on 180g heavyweight black vinyl.
