Between 1981 and 1985 the classic line-up of Venom - Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon - released seven singles for Neat Records, one perhaps for each of the Seven Gates Of Hell. This was the golden age of the band, and with these releases and the albums Welcome To Hell and Black Metal in particular they cemented their position in metal’s hall of fame. Not only did they spawn an entire genre in its own right, but in doing so the band became the yardstick by which future extreme and black metal outfits would measure themselves. As such, the importance of these releases cannot be overstated, and this collection also illustrates how the band’s sound and direction developed over time. Opening with their April 1981 debut ‘In League With Satan’, The Seven Gates Of Hell serves up the seven singles in chronological order: ‘Blood Lust’, ‘Die Hard’, ‘Warhead’, ‘Manitou’, ‘Nightmare’ and the limited edition Hell At Hammersmith EP (with its stunning live version of ‘Witching Hour’) complete the running order, along with the relevant B-sides and bonus tracks on alternate formats. Originally released on CD by Sanctuary in 2003, this new vinyl release adds the track ‘Warhead’ which appeared on the flip of the 12” picture disc of ‘Nightmare’ as well as a 5,000 word essay featuring a new interview with Tony Bray, aka drummer Abaddon.

Often considered the first black metal band, the band even gave a certain band named Metallica their first break in Europe nearly 30 years ago. Black metal, speed metal, death metal, whatever you want to call it, Venom started it all with that one record!"This reissue of Venom's fourth studio album, Possessed, features the original 1985 album with 6 bonus tracks.

I Venom sono una band di metal estremo inglese che si è formata nel 1979 a Newcastle. Sono uno dei gruppi più stimati e apprezzati della loro generazione. All’inizio della carriera registrano l’album “Welcome to Hell” (1981) e “Black Metal” (1982) considerati di grande influenza per il genere trash metal e il metal estremo, infatti dal secondo album prende il nome il sottogenere omonimo. Il trio formato da Cronos, Mantas e Abaddon ha successivamente registrato in studio gli album “At War with Satan” (1984), “Possessed” (1985) e l’album live “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (1986). IN NOMINE SATANAS viene ripubblicato in un cofanetto CD + DVD per festeggiare i grandi classici e i brani inediti che risalgono al periodo della loro formazione nel 1979.

La raccolta era compresa nel box “In Nomine Satanas” uscito lo scorso anno e verrà ora rilasciata come album a sè stante.Tra i pezzi in tracklist troviamo anche alcuni del 1979 cantati da Clive “Jesus Christ” Archer, il primo frontman del gruppo. Between 1985 and 1987 a series of "Assault" EPs were released. These collected studio material along with previously unreleased live tracks. The Assault-series were conceived as a strictly-limited souvenir of each of their overseas jaunts. Venom officially agreed on the Canadian, American and the Japanese Assault. The others were released without the permission from the band. The most successful release were the Banzai release Canadian Assault which reached gold status in Canada, at 50,000 copies. Now all officially collected and remastered for this amazing collection!

"At War with Satan" is the third album by extreme metal pioneers Venom, released in April 1984. Though neither of their first two albums had sold in very large quantities (even by heavy metal standards), by 1983 Venom had become simply impossible to ignore. To be sure, their exceedingly Satanic posturing wasn't nearly as shocking as it was cartoonish, and their impenetrable dirge of embryonic black metal only helped fuel the metal community's interest in the band.
