ARCHGOAT
The Light Devouring Darkness

REISSUE.

After 20 years the legendary debut album from Finnish iconoclasts ARCHGOAT remains an unstoppable and irresistible demonstration of angel-ripping Black/Death Metal profanity.

These initial ten blasphemies hailed the rising darkness, welcomed the Luciferian unlight and inaugurated ARCHGOAT's relentless ongoing black crusade against the religion of the weak. Filthy and grimy in the best tradition of venom-encrusted sacrilege, "Whore Of Bethlehem" expresses ruthless contempt for all things holy - sneering openly at Golgotha amid a torrent of trampled crucifixes and weeping, violated archangels. A dark, ritualistic symphony of impurity, "Whore Of Bethlehem" is a single-minded and destructive masterpiece of twisted black Art to snuff out all the light.

Now in their 37th year of blasphemous brutality, Finnish Black Metal iconoclasts ARCHGOAT remain one of the most single-minded and relentlessly visceral bands in extreme music.

New album "Nightbringer, Lightbringer" once again taps into the guts of ancient evil to unearth a noxious stench of horror. Undiminished and eternal, the band's patented synthesis of mystical first wave Black/Death Metal, Punk hostility, primal Thrash and bestial Grindcore is destructive as ever in its magickal raw power.

This time around a slightly less-dank production ensures each putrid note is assimilated and felt. Mind-altering atmospherics and cryptic synth embellishments remain a feature, with some grandly melodic leads and – gasp – lower gain arpeggios in place for fleeting relief before the returning waves of pummelling satanic violence.

Uncompromising, unaffected, unbowed, and capped with another inimitable cover from the legendary Chris Moyen, this is pure ARCHGOAT: corrupted, devastating and - considering the dissolving certainties around us - still necessary.

Classic brooding riffs, malignant atmospheres, primordial blastbeats and deathly guttural vocals are the hallmarks of ARCHGOAT's black art and "The Light-Devouring Darkness" is a monument to their unending vitriol and malice. Pungent as the stench of rotting flesh and supercharged with vitriol, this album exudes the reek of authentic, uncontrolled Satanic decadence.
