"Closer To The Sky" explores the more classically symphonic black metal side of MIDNIGHT ODYSSEY, made up of sumptuous nocturnal melodies that elevate the spirit, majestic orchestral scores rich in nuances in which Dis Pater embeds wonderful cosmic choirs, telling once again the mystery of existence and otherworldly dimensions in which life and death are inextricably intertwined forever.
Four years after the release of the first chapter, MIDNIGHT ODYSSEY close the circle of the ambitious "Biolume" trilogy with "A Fullmoon Madness," a mammoth triple album wrapped in a new phantasmagorical cover painting by Elijah Tamu.
Acting as a stylistic summa of the Australian one-man band, "A Fullmoon Madness" collects all the metal nuances explored by Dis Pater in the previous episodes and in its career. Once again, cosmic black metal bigger than the nightsky and the crushing heaviness of epic doom metal are bound together by dark wave synths, grandiose symphonic arrangements and Dis Pater's heartfelt vocal performance, oscillating between raven screaming and sumptuous clean chants to underline the lunar character of the music.

"CONVERGE, RIVERS OF HELL" is a concept-album dedicated to the classical rivers of Hades as narrated in Greek and Latin Literature and Mythology, featuring exclusive contributions from all of Dis Pater's projects: MIDNIGHT ODYSSEY, THE CREVICES BELOW and TEMPESTUOUS FALL.
In Dis Pater's visions - fueled by ambient black metal, symphonic arrangements and funeral doom abysses - Acheron, Cocytus, Pyriphlegethon, Lethe and Styx become places of the soul, where the dead face their despair and are left to wander eternally, drowning in their own memories and miseries, waiting for a merciful hand to save them... or cancel their existence forever.
Over 1 hour in length, the CD is accompanied by a luxurious 24-page full-colour booklet with all lyrics, Dis Pater's notes, and the superb paintings by the Flemish visionary artist Erik Heyninck, a true master of Surrealism.
Among the most beloved and revered acts within the atmospheric metal field, Australia's MIDNIGHT ODYSSEY is back with “Biolume Part 2: The Golden Orb”, the second part of a trilogy started in 2019 with “Biolume Part 1: In Tartarean Chains.” The new album explores the themes of the sun, set within the context of classical mythology and in continuation from its predecessor.
“Whereas the first part was very much about creating one’s own light in the deepest tracts of darkness, the second part is about being confronted and embraced by nothing but light,” explains sole member Dis Pater. “The sun, Sol Invictus, Helios, the eye of Zeus (including his sister, Eos or Aurora, the dawn) are the light giving and all-seeing purveyors of the day.”
Featuring once again a sumptuous cover painting by Elijah Tamu, “The Golden Orb” tells the story of being exposed to the majestic and searing power of starlight, a burning and unbearable heat, like being chained in a desert. “Like our hot Australian summers,” Dis Pater continues, “it’s a harsh and uncomfortable place of being that brings to mind stories of the desert in ancient near-Eastern mythology and literature. And atop on his golden chariot is the Sun God himself, punishing with heat and thirst, drought and drying winds.”
Musically this is a different style to previous MIDNIGHT ODYSSEY releases. This time Dis Pater's main influences came from the epic heavy metal and doom of bands like SCALD and SOLSTICE (UK), but also from medieval music (such as chant, troubadour and trouveres music) and military style battle horns, with a dose of viking-era BATHORY.

If Midnight Odyssey's previous work, 2011's "Funerals From The Astral Sphere" has become a cult release and is today cherished as one of the finest examples of atmospheric/ambient black metal, "Shards Of Silver Fade" is certainly going to break new grounds and impose the Australian act on a wider audience, independently from metal sub-genres and styles.
The funeral doom grandeur of Tempestuous Fall and the dark-wave vibe of The Crevices Below - Dis Pater's past projects - have been successfully injected into Midnight Odyssey's cosmic black metal body, redoubling the emotional intensity and dark majesty of its melodies. The result is nothing short of an epic masterpiece, a visionary night voyage of over 2 hours connecting our ancient pagan past with the apocalyptic feelings of a cosmic death.
2xCD, 140 minutes playing time ! 28-page full colour booklet!
