The Cold White Light is widely regarded as Sentenced’s masterpiece and one of the most iconic albums to emerge from the Finnish metal scene. Released in 2002, the album represents the perfect synthesis of melodic metal, gothic darkness, and crushing emotional weight.

Here, Sentenced refine their sound into something stark, direct, and devastatingly effective-mid-tempo riffs drenched in melancholy, memorable and somber melodies, and a sense of cold introspection that permeates every track.

Ville Laihiala’s vocal performance is raw, expressive, and deeply human, delivering themes of despair, loss, isolation, and existential struggle with haunting sincerity. Presented in the classic jewel case CD format, this edition of The Cold White Light captures the album in its definitive form, preserving the bleak atmosphere and emotional intensity that have made it a timeless reference in gothic and melodic metal. The record unfolds with a powerful sense of cohesion, moving effortlessly between heavy, crushing moments and melancholic, almost fragile passages.

Songs like “No One There”, “Brief In The light” and ”Konevitsan Kirkonkellot” have become genre-defining anthems, while the album as a whole stands as a deeply immersive listening experience. The Cold White Light is a cold, honest, and uncompromising emotional journey, cementing Sentenced’s legacy as one of the most influential and emotionally resonant metal bands of their era.

On their demos and first full-length Shadows of the Past, the band played death metal. On their second full-length North from Here, the band added progressive elements to their sound. After that, the band made a complete switch from death metal to gothic metal starting their third full-length Amok.

Sentenced split up in 2005, after a farewell album titled The Funeral Album and an extensive farewell tour. On October 1st, 2005, at their last gig, in their hometown of Oulu, Taneli Jarva joined the band to sing a few songs from North from Here, Amok, and Love and Death.

Frozen is a pivotal album in Sentenced’s evolution, marking the moment where the band fully embraced a darker, more melodic, and emotionally charged direction.

Originally released in 1998, this record represents a turning point away from their early death metal roots and toward the melancholic gothic metal sound that would later define their legacy. Cold, heavy riffs, mournful melodies, and a pervasive sense of isolation and despair dominate the album, creating an atmosphere that is both bleak and hauntingly beautiful. Ville Laihiala’s vocals, raw and expressive, convey anguish and resignation with striking authenticity, giving the songs a deeply personal and immersive emotional weight.

Issued on CD in the classic jewel case format, Frozen stands as one of Sentenced’s most influential and enduring releases. The album flows with a somber elegance, balancing crushing heaviness with moments of fragile melody and introspective calm. Tracks like “Kaamos” “For the Love I Bear” and “Mourn” highlight the band’s gift for crafting unforgettable, sorrow-laden songs that linger long after the music fades.

Frozen is a bleak emotional landscape, a soundtrack to loss and introspection, and a cornerstone of late ’90s gothic metal that continues to resonate with listeners seeking depth, darkness, and sincerity.
