Info : Sweden's MARDUK are not only one of the most long running and respected black metal acts out there, but also one of the most productive. Even fourteen albums into their storied career, the quartet have never ever delivered a weak album and never wavered from their path of utter blasphemy and misanthropic contempt. 2004's “Plague Angel” was the first release featuring current vocalist Mortuus (Funeral Mist, Triumphator) who played a pivotal role in MARDUK's reinvigoration after the departure of previous singer Legion. He brought a new level of vocal and lyrical intensity plus a frightening stage presence into the game catapulting the group to new heights. Now, it will finally be made available! Remastered by Patrick W. Engel.

Even thirteen albums into their storied career, the quartet have never ever delivered a weak album and never wavered from their path of utter blasphemy and misanthropic contempt.
Now, Century Media Records, Osmose Productions and the band are re-visiting various much sought after titles from their vast catalogue: 2004's “Plague Angel” was the first release featuring current vocalist Mortuus (Funeral Mist, Triumphator) who played a pivotal role in MARDUK's reinvigoration after the departure of previous singer Legion. He brought a new level of vocal and lyrical intensity plus a frightening stage presence into the game catapulting the group to new heights.

The album, the band's 12th full-length release, is a testament to their burning desire to create blackened metal of the highest order. A concept album of sorts, Serpent Sermon is an unadulterated attack on all that is good, casting a heavy pall over light and love. Morgan offers, “The lyrics should speak to everybody, to realize the power contained within. Just let it embrace you and the journey has begun!” That journey is a deep one that plumbs the very depths of Hell as guitars rip and shred, drums thunder and the low end bass pulls at the very bowels of the soul. “As long as we have the desire and burning ambition to spread the message we will continue to be the servants of a higher cause and keep delivering blood, fire and death to the world!”

“La Grande Danse Macabre” album (2001), which presents a more varied and darker approach compared to the Swedish black metal titans' usual blastbeat-driven full on assault. Created in close cooperation with the band, this re-release features remastered sound (done by bassist Devo Andersson), detailed liner notes, unpublished photos, revamped artwork by Death Wolf vocalist Maelstrom and bonus material on the CD version: a cover version of “Samhain” (originally by pre-DANZIG punk outfit SAMHAIN) and all three tracks from the “Obedience” EP (2000). Expect nothing but perfect extreme black metal pleasure!

“World Funeral” album (2003), which marked the last opus with singer Legion and to the very day remains a flawless, hateful yet varied Swedish black metal attack. Created in close cooperation with the band, this re-release features remastered sound (done by bassist Devo Andersson), detailed liner notes, unpublished photos, revamped artwork by Death Wolf vocalist Maelstrom and bonus material on the CD version: a cover version of Possessed's “Phantasm” plus an entirely unreleased rehearsal from 2002 spanning many of the album tracks. Almost 78 minutes of black metal annihilation!

Originally released as a picture disc only “Totentanz” is re-issued via Back On Black on all formats. Totentanz (Dance Of The Dead) was recorded live on December 12th, Essen Germania 2001.

 Where Marduk fired the arrow and hit the bullseye in terms of war-themed releases was this little 3 track release called Iron Dawn. In three tracks, Marduk sets its sights on sonically delivering the chaotic brutality of war, and executes to such a degree of perfection that you can't help but listen to the EP on repeat. It is amazing as much as it is haunting.

This killer live recording was recorded in France during "The World Panzer Battle Tour". Originally released via Regain Records, this killer Marduk live show is finally made available again on Back On Black.
