Diabolical Masquerade was the solo-project created by Katatonia's Anders 'Blakkheim' Nyström in 1996, to let off more creative steam away from the gothic/doom metal styling of Katatonia.
Nightwork, DM's third album, was recorded at The Sanctuary in April 1998 and produced by Dan Swan (Opeth, Katatonia) with Blakkheim.
Although a solo-project, Blakkheim enlisted the help of Dan Swan to perform the drums, as well as contributing with some keyboards and backing vocals.
Diabolical Masquerade was based primarily around symphonic/melodic black metal; creating eerie atmospheres through keyboards and utilizing more high energy & technical compositions than those of his main band, with complex patterns of riffs and hooks. This particular album saw a greater integration of synths than previously, to convey a strong horror theme. To further expand this atmosphere, cello and flute were also incorporated.
The ambitious Death’s Design was the fourth and final album by Katatonia's Anders 'Blakkheim’ Nyström's Symphonic Extreme Metal solo-project, Diabolical Masquerade.
Containing atmospheric synth and sound effects throughout and featuring the Maalten Quartet (Estonia), Death’s Design offers ab orchestral and epic experience mixed with Black and traditional Metal influences. The album consists of 61 seamlessly flowing segments, grouped into 20 movements.

Released in 1997, The Phantom Lodge was the second of four albums from this symphonic extreme Metal solo-project (before the band was ended in September 2004).
Diabolical Masquerade was based primarily around symphonic/melodic Black Metal. Strong atmospheres were created through layered guitar and keyboards (and notably, flute, on this album), and Blackheim’s compositions contained more up tempo and extreme elements than those of Katatonia, with cold, dark riffs with a firm emphasis on mood, given life with strong fantasy-based lyrics.
The Phantom Lodge was a natural progression from debut album Ravendusk In My Heart; delving further into the realm of experimentation and atmospherics.
The album was recorded at Unisound, September 1996 and was produced and mixed by Dan Swano (Opeth, Marduk, Dissection) and Blackheim.

Evoken is a funereal doom metal band from New Jersey USA. The band’s style draws comparisons to acts such as early My Dying Bride & also Finnish band Thergothon - the name Evoken was even taken from an old Thergothon demo track.
The band was founded by guitarist Nick Orlando under the name Funereus in April 1992 & along with Rob (Bass/Vocals); Phil (Guitar) & Vince (Drums), they recorded what would be the only Funereus release, a rehearsal demo. The band eventually changed to Evoken in 1994 after several line-up changes.
‘Quietus’ was Evoken’s second full-length studio album. It was originally released in 2001 & was recorded at WAVE Studios in New York during October & November of 1999. Evoken have become known for their thick walls of apocalyptic guitar on long epic tracks featuring strong, dark atmospherics, with ‘Quietus’ being a classic example of funeral doom metal honed to perfection, becoming a cult hit with fans worldwide.
This edition of ‘Quietus’ includes a rare bonus track, an instrumental originally from 2004 and is presented on limted grey coloured double vinyl with gatefold sleeve.

Their genre-classic Black Metal debut ‘Scorn Defeat’ arrived in 1993, & with a subsequent journey through the strange & the psychedelic, incorporating a whole eclectic mix of genre styles & ideas throughout their career, Sigh has remained a vital creative force in the avantgarde field whilst maintaining their old school roots, as witnessed on the 2022 album (& first for Peaceville Records), ‘Shiki’. This was followed by the remaking of their ‘Hangman’s Hymn’ album as part of the band’s 35th anniversary celebrations, in the shape of ‘I Saw The World’s End: Hangman’s Hymn MMXXV’ (2025).
Considered as somewhat of a natural evolution, yet an even more diverse leap over the already compositionally & dynamically accomplished ‘Shiki’ opus, Sigh returns with ‘Goh-ka’; a new highlight of atmosphere, technical mastery, & meticulously arranged epics of metallic grandeur.
Main-man Mirai Kawashima notes this as being as equally personal an album as ‘Shiki’, both musically & lyrically. From a musical perspective, if you were to place the main ingredients of Celtic Frost, Voivod, Black Sabbath, horror movies & Japan into a cauldron & stir it, you will get ‘Goh-ka’. Numerous additional spices such as psychedelic rock, prog rock & classical music are also evident over the album’s close to one-hour duration.
The primary theme permeating the album is Kuso-zu; a series of Buddhist paintings or illustrations depicting the nine stages of a human body's decomposition after death, created to encourage meditation on the impermanence of life, the inevitability of death, & the detachment from physical beauty & worldly attachment. It openly shows the harsh reality that no matter how beautiful you are, you’ll be dead & rot sooner or later. And Kuso-shi is a poem based on these paintings. The artworks on the cover & in the booklet of ‘Goh-ka’ are therefore Kuso-zu themselves.
Among the additional contributors to the album, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth notably delivers a special guest guitar solo on the track, ‘Unputenpu’.

Delving evermore into the experimental side of music to conjure an interlinked gallery of twisted soundscapes; ‘Dread Dreams’ became more of a journey into the realm of psychedelia and rock over black metal, with this Zappa-inspired odyssey acting as somewhat of a direct pre-cursor to what was to follow with the celebrated ‘Imaginary Sonicscape’ opus.
‘Dread Dreams’ was once more recorded at Shinjuku On Air Studio with J. Yamada, with a selection of guests including Damian Montgomery of Ritual Carnage lending lyrics plus guest vocals, along with King Fowley (Deceased), and Killjoy (Necrophagia) supplying additional song lyrics. Cover art came courtesy of renowned artist Joe Petagno (Motörhead, Autopsy).
Continuing with Peaceville’s re-issues of Sigh’s classic works, this edition of ‘Dread Dreams’ contains a new master created by Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony.

With the addition of all-time genre classic opuses Turn Loose the Swans, and The Angel and the Dark River also representing My Dying Bride's much-loved early to 90's period, the band's three cult EPs are also featured in this deluxe eight-vinyl boxset, with each record presented on 180gm heavyweight black vinyl. The four studio albums themselves have also been treated to new half-speed masters courtesy of Air Studios.

This new edition of ‘Gothic’, marking the album’s 35th anniversary, is presented on double CD, with remastered audio courtesy of Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. The bonus disc features the band Live in Ludwigsburg, 1991, performing tracks from Gothic and their debut album. The release also includes a four page booklet containing recollections from the band on the period and the shaping of the album, as originally featured in 2021’s ‘The Lost and the Painless’.
