Rearing its head out of the seemingly endless darkness of the north, Sweden based NATTRADIO are a rather recent born, obscure entity with so far only one full length album to their name. If the strength of their second album The Longest Night is anything to go by NATTRADIO’s obscurity should be over soon, though.
The album is characterised by a sombre and pervasive sense of melancholy that splendidly encapsulates themes of isolation and emotional struggle. Preferably listened to during the night’s darkest hours The Longest Night is a record that gently envelops you.
One of the band’s members by writing the following regarding NATTRADIO’s motives and sound perfectly characterizes the band:
“NATTRADIO was born out of sleepless nights. Every song is written and recorded between 01:00 and 05:00. The songs move through a nocturnal landscape we call Doom Noir – drawing from ’90s Gothic Doom, Darkwave, Ambient and at times, Noir Jazz. The goal is to capture night-time themes. These are stories from the hours after midnight, with grief as the central emotion.”
Despite drawing inspiration from various sources NATTRADIO’s soundscape has certainly most in common with KATATONIA’s era beginning with Discouraged Ones. Especially the singer’s voice sounds strikingly similar to Jonas Renkse. So much so that one can only wonder if it’s actually the KATATONIA singer’s characteristic melancholic voice singing to the sound noir.
The Longest Night stands as an evocative journey through the labyrinth of melancholy, offering listeners a soundscape both immersive and introspective.
Appearing right in time to accompany you on endless strolls during the most melancholic season, we heartily encourage you to do yourself a favour and obtain a copy of this marvellous album!

2017's "Deus Salutis Meæ" ("God of my Salvation") is a truly mesmeric emission from BLUT AUS NORD, the great Black Metal innovator renowned for disdain toward convention and a murderous relationship with boundaries.
Using frightening alchemy and predatory cruelty, BAN here fuses each distinct era of its 23-year existence with powerful readings of cavernous, arcane Death Metal, the occult excesses of outsider Industrial and the abject hauntings of psychotropic Doom. A work of singular class from an artist who continues to remain vital.
The long-lost debut of Twin Obscenity is back!
“Where Light Touches None” returns from the battlefield, ready to conquer once more!
Originally unleashed in 1997, this brutal slab of Norwegian Melodic Black/Death Metal fuses icy melodies with relentless aggression. A true underground classic, now finally reborn.
KATATONIA'S CLASSIC 1997 RELEASE OF TIMELESS DEATH/DOOM MELANCHOLY, FEATURING MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT ON VOCALS.
Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Anders Nystrom & Jonas Renkse. Their debut album, 'Dance Of December Souls', was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise Lost & My Dying Bride as one of the genre's defining bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined & structured collection of melodic dark rock songs that became third album 'Discouraged Ones'; widely regarded as the main evolution point for what eventually became modern day Katatonia.
In the wake of 1996's epic & sublime 'Brave Murder Day', which further established the Swedes as one of the leaders of melancholic metal, the 1997 EP 'Sounds Of Decay' continued with this masterful blend of sombre melodic & hypnotic death doom metal. 'Sounds Of Decay' was recorded at Stockholm's Sunlight Studios & notably featured Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals.
This edition of 'Sounds Of Decay' is presented on digipack CD format & includes the bonus track 'Untrue', which was not originally included on the 1997 release.
