SHAPE OF DESPAIR
Return To The Void

CD in deluxe Digipak with 8-page booklet

There are few funeral doom bands out there that manage to express sorrow and despair in such a majestic and beautiful manner as SHAPE OF DESPAIR. The Finns’ latest full-length is a product of their environment, enveloping the listener in cold, eternal darkness like a lonely Finnish winter. And much like the long, funereal winters of their homeland, the atmosphere in ‘Return to the Void’ is bleak but ethereal. The funeral doom icons do not merely offer a soundtrack to one’s agony, but also demonstrate the beauty that can often be found in misery.

For fans of FUNERAL, MOURNFUL CONGREGATION, BELL WITCH, AHAB, EVOKEN.

BLOODBARK
Bonebranches (blue/black galaxy)

Limited editions 199 copies on blue/black galaxy vinyl,  gatefold cover and download.

Bloodbark is a project of unknown origin made by an unknown number of people embracing that nature is the creator, storyteller and the artist behind it all. This idea sprouted with the 2018’s album Bonebranches, where no human presence tarnished the art. The human aspect remained hidden, covered by snow while nature and emotion sang across beautiful landscapes and whispered verses with melodies to every listener, so it welcomed them into its utterly cold embrace of winter to lull into a cozy and familiar slumber.

AQUILUS
Bellum I

The impossible has become possible...AQUILUS returns!

The enigmatic, atmospheric metal band became one of the most whispered-about secrets in the metal scene, following the quiet release of their debut album “Griseus” in 2011.

A 2013 vinyl release rocketed the band into public consciousness, and “Griseus” slowly amassed a following of devoted fans, climbing its way to being voted #1 album of the decade on MetalStorm.

For eight years, an epic, sophomore masterwork was-in-the-making. So legendary, in fact, that fans hardly believe it exists.

The opus grew so furiously, the decision was ultimately made to split the work into two parts, culminating with the release of the first album – “Bellum I”.

“Bellum I” showcases the band's rare amalgam of authentic classical, European folk, and black metal influences, alongside Aquilus's unique multi-instrumentation and compositional complexity.

Metal influences, ranging from early METALLICA to the early works of SOLEFALD, OPETH, and KATATONIA, combine with the classical romanticism of RACHMANINOV and CHOPIN.

“Bellum I” also continues Aquilus's signature blend of acoustic elements with an assortment of acoustic guitars and pianos to violins, mandolas, fipple flutes, balalaika, gusli, and bowed psaltery – recalling the aurae and dexterity of emotive film composers BERNARD HERRMANN and THOMAS NEWMAN.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Aquilus's music is composed and produced by one person – Horace Rosenqvist – recorded in collaboration with session musicians. The amount of detail poured into each note is immeasurable. Years of dedication were undertaken to produce the finest works.

“Bellum I” is a stunning tribute to perfection. A testament to the beauty and chaos of creation.

MALICIOUS
Merciless Storm

Three years may've passed since that recording, but MALICIOUS have only become more unhinged in the meantime. Witness the four-song Merciless Storm. Tauntingly titled once again, Merciless Storm picks up right where Deranged Hexes left off, but sees the Finns following a natural progression in all aspects. With a runtime of 11 minutes, it's mercilessly / mercifully short and sweet, upping the violence and aggression to levels impossibly beyond that nuclear-powered debut album. And yet, the songwriting remains stout and streamlined and perhaps minutely more detailed and even palatably "refined." If anything, Merciless Storm possesses a clearer soundfield, but that only amplifies the savagery to an insane degree, especially the '80s Slayer-style

AMENRA
Mass I

Jewelcase in a slipcase.

As the Masses amassed, it became clear Amenra was a serious contender within the post/sludge/doom genre. With this reissue of the long out of print debut we take a step back, and celebrate the album that started the procession now exactly a decade ago. "Mass I", rooted in the (post)hardcore and noise scene, reveals an ambitious outfit that are set to preach their distinctive blurring of genres and musical conventions. The original recordings' brilliance is finally revealed by Billy Anderson's (Eyehategod, Melvins, Neurosis, Swans) tremendous remastering. "Mass I" never sounded this full and powerful. If you want to know what Amenra is all about, start praying with us from the beginning.

SNORLAX
The Necrotrophic Abyss

Snorlax was born in unexpected circumstances during an experimental recording session in mid-2017 at Black Blood Audio in Brisbane, Australia. Recording engineer Brendan Auld stumbled upon the sound and found the voice of Snorlax while trialing new recording techniques. Following the stream of ideas and sounds that ensued, the result was what later became the unmastered release of The Splintering Demo. Having only played drums for a few short years at that point, Brendan's expectations were low, yet the release grabbed the attention of many black metal enthusiasts including Caligari Records, Jef Whitehead of Leviathan and even made #2 on a 2017 Decibel Magazine list of "Must Listen Underground Demos" compiled by the late Trevor Strnard of The Black Dahlia Murder.

Honing in on the Snorlax sound even further in 2020 with the release of II via Brilliant Emperor Records, more death metal-inspired elements began creeping into the foreground and soon the label "blackened death" was attached to project.

Jumping forward to 2023, Snorlax is set to release its third composition, mysteriously titled The Necrotrophic Abyss. Much like II, this full-length release clocks in at just under 30 minutes, delivering a concise, ruthless display of sonic violence and despair. This album is presented as a concept, with an overarching story that flows throughout, each song a chapter depicting a world so vile its own death is forced by the hands of nature. In the second half of the record Brendan introduces some new voices and layers of collaboration as the planet is laid to waste for eons resulting in a desolate baron abyss only creatures of the undead have a chance of surviving. The album closes with a slight glimpse of hope as the story eludes to an unlikely rebirth of evolution and a potentially inhabitable future after all.

This dark narrative is painted only by the lyrics, the music never loosening its grip, staying trve to the perpetual paralysis proclaimed on track 1 of the Snorlax first release.
