Think about this – I have pretty much left this blog alone and then I have happened upon an album that simply wouldn’t leave me alone and at night I would lay awake thinking “I have to start writing again to tell people about more amazing music”.
Djur, previously known as NAV’, made an amazing strong debut with this years full-length “? ??????? ????? ??????” which translates to “In Torrents of Chaos Blood“. There has been a lot of sub-par black metal coming out of Russia but this album has ability to redeem the whole country with it’s unrelenting wave of pressure from guitar riffs, thunderstorm-like drums and vocals nothing short of wartime proclamations. In their interviews Djur have said that during their time as Nav’ they would play atmospheric black metal in the vein of Nargaroth during their Herbstleyd era and I am glad that they have grown through that stage into a violent and powerful force as they prepared for their debut release.
With the majority of the lyrics written by Kaldrad (Forest, Temnozor, Branikald) it’s no surprise that the main themes are Strength, Honor and Intolerance to the enemies of the land. While some find this direction played out by a lot of Heathen/Nordic Black Metal bands it can not be more fitting for this album and the lyrical direction has great impact on the musical and vocal styles here.
Djur are currently looking for a European label as they have released the “In Torrents of Chaos Blood“ on their own Skidbladnir Production and I can not imagine that they will be looking for long as any label with an ear for true potential should pick them up as soon as possible.
Please note the album name is “In Torrents of Chaos Blood” not “In Streams of Chaos Blood” as seen on some sites.
