Before folk Metal turned into a gimmick, Otyg were already there.  "Bergtagen" captures the band at its purest.  Earthy, melodic, and deeply Scandinavian.  No posturing, no plastic bombast.  Just strong riffs, breathing rhythms, violin, jaw harp, and Vintersorg sounding raw, urgent, and serious.

Though often called a demo, “Bergtagen” never felt like one.  The songs are fully formed, memorable, and played with intent.

This is where Otyg’s spirit truly lives, long before it was softened or streamlined elsewhere.
Now remastered in 2025 by Vintersorg, the re issue finally does justice to this material.

“Folktronen (1995-2000)” gathers the complete Otyg recordings from 1995 to 2000 in one definitive collection.  All demos and both full length albums, newly remastered in 2025 by Vintersorg.

The title carries a double meaning.  Folktron refers to folklore and old beliefs, while tron also means throne.  Together it reflects what Otyg stood for during these years.  Deeply rooted in tradition, yet standing apart from trends.  In hindsight, these recordings capture a period where Otyg truly ruled their own corner of folk metal.

From the raw power of “Bertagen” and “I Trollskogens Drömmande Mörker”, through the transitional “Galdersång Till Bergfadern”, to the full length visions of “Älvefärd” and “Sagovindars Boning”, this box set documents the complete journey.
