Moonlight Sorcery, the Finnish symphonic black metal sensation of 2022, is back with a new mini album featuring three brand-new tracks and a cover.
While hard at work on their debut studio album, Loitsumestari Taikakallo, Haaska and Ruttomieli took a divergent path that brought them to compose and record what would become Nightwind: The Conqueror From The Stars. This has been one of the best kept secrets of 2022, but now the time has come to unveil the new spells which have been conjured in the magical dungeons of Moonlight Sorcery.
Nightwind is in every aspect the follow-up to the acclaimed debut EP Piercing Through The Frozen Eternity, which means an illuminating, blasting example of how symphonic black metal from the ‘90s can be composed and performed three decades later without losing an ounce of its urgency and fascination. And magic. And malice. And evil.
Anachronism is a Swiss band formed in 2009. Drawing inspiration from a lot of different influences, from dissonant, technical and brutal death metal to jazz and prog music, the quartet is now about to release their third studio album, Meanders.
Following the self-released Orogeny from 2018 (and the Reflecting the Inside EP before that), Meanders is a work of heavy contrasts: pure blasts of violence intertwine with ambient, intimate parts or groovy drum & bass duos. On top of complex, unpredictable structures, singer Lisa Voisard’s low growls and aerials riffs make work to bring depth to the eight songs of the albums.
When asked to describe their new opus, Anachronism answered: “Sometimes we find harmonized arpeggios, sometimes we find fast and agressive moments, and in the end each song is a journey of its own, painting a different scenario”.
With their new album Anachronism shows varied atmospheres and moods, all with powerful feelings and a rich palette of emotions. Come take a tour through their Meanders.
Anachronism new album, with a cover illustration by Adam Burke, will be released via Avantgarde Music death metal division Unorthodox Emanations on January 28th, 2023.
By their hammer let none be saved – Misþyrming return to lay down the law. Með hamri is the sound of the iron heel of Black Metal trampling the face of musical modernity.
Með hamri is deeply saturated with the vibrantly alive energy that Misþyrming capture so effectively on stage. The drums sound organic and powerful, the guitar distortion has a vicious bite, and D.G.’s vocals are as brutal and evocative as ever. The underlying spirit is one of action. There is melancholy, bitterness, and filth, but one of the album’s foremost characteristics is its relentless surge of determination. Never before have Misþyrming sounded livelier and more confrontational.
Since 2012 in the roster of I, Voidhanger Records, Ohio's THE WAKEDEAD GATHERING are back with their fourth full-length work, "Parallaxiom," a concept album that confirms their qualities, their stylistic code and their skill of great horror storytellers. Andrew Lampe's solo project has always been a harbinger of classic cavernous death metal sounds applied to a brilliant songwriting, rich in black metal and doom metal nuances.
With "Parallaxiom" The Wakeded Gathering tell a dark sci-fi story, set in a gray and dystopian future in which genetic tests allow an authoritarian state to determine whether an unborn person will commit crimes as an adult. "Those deemed most unsuitable for society are immediately executed or jailed for further study," Andrew Lampe explains; "however, this is not a perfect science. Several individuals flee and later turn their attention to the destruction of this unnatural state."
Paradox was formed in Würzburg in 1986 by two young musicians, Charly Steinhauer and Axel Blaha. Both of them were founding members of German metal bands Overkill, Venom and Warhead since 1981. Early 1986 they finally changed the band name to PARADOX. In July 1986, the band recorded a demo, drawing the attention of Roadrunner Records. In 1987, PARADOX recorded their second demo "Mystery" which was a success for the band, with the German press calling it the best demo of the year. In the same year, the band started recording their first album ‘Product of Imagination’ for RoadRunner records. The debut album was an enormous success in Germany, with Metal Hammer recognising it as the best German debut after ‘Walls of Jericho’ by Helloween. The album ‘Mystery Demo 1987 - Deluxe edition’ contains the pre Paradox demos from 1985 and 1983, 16 tracks in total. Cover artwork by Thomas Pinheiro (Possessed, Hirax, Malevolent Creation). Extensive liner notes with founding member Charlie Steinhauer and tonns of pictures from the 1981 – 1987 era. Paradox still exists up till today and has released 8 full length albums and a handful of singles / ep’s.
One of the longest-running Swedish death metal bands, GRAVE has created a sound and style which has been an inspiration on a number extreme metal bands. The band started in 1986 under the name Corpse and changed it to Grave in 1988. Formed in 1986 by vocalist and guitarist Ola Lindgren, Jörgen Sandström ( ex-Entombed, ex-Candlemass (live), The Project Hate MCMXCIX,) on lead vocals and guitars and drummer Jens "Jensa" Paulsson. The band had particular success in the early 1990s, and their first four albums, Into the Grave, You'll Never See..., Soulless and Hating Life, cemented their reputation as one of Sweden's foremost death metal bands. In late 1993, GRAVE released the ‘...And Here I Die...Satisfied’, a limited edition EP featuring brand new, rare and remixed tracks encompassing the band's entire recording history. Designed to mark the end of an era for the outfit, the EP set the stage for the release of the trio's long-awaited third full-length offering. Complete booklet remake by RA Design (Possessed, Vio Lence, Varathron), including an interview by Pim Blankenstein with vocalist / guitarist Jörgen Sandström. Cover art by Axel Hermann (Asphyx, Morgoth, Unleashed).
American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California formed in 1984. Originally known as Sacrilege, they added B.C. to their name in 1986 to avoid confusion with UK Sacrilege after being signed to Alchemy Records. Sacrilege B.C. played Bay Area thrash metal with a huge dose of punk and crossover influences. The band featured vocalist Strephon Taylor, guitarists Gary Wendt and Tim Howell, bassist Sean Smithson, and drummer Matt Fillmore. Maybe slightly overlooked amidst the era's tidal floods of '80s speed metal talent, the band only recorded two, curiously named albums in 1986's ‘Party With God’, and 1988's ‘Too Cool to Pray’ . Guitarist Wendt would later help found post-death outfit Skinlab. With this re-issue 'Party With God' finally emerges from obscurity with demo 1985 as bonus. A classic and a raging thrashterpiece that delivers in spades on the promise of TRUE metal/punk crossover! The band was disbanded in 1991. New booklet with old pictures, flyers, posters and all lyrics. Liner notes by the band and by Robb Flynn (Machine Head / ex Vio Lence). As bonus the 4 track demo 1985, 17 tracks in total.
Issued in a jewel case with a transparent tray. Comes with a fold out 6-page booklet.
Ultimate re-issue on 2-CD containing all the early demos ('84-'86) prior to the 1st album by this mythical US band that played a unique and personal hybrid of primitive Horror Death, Thrash and Black with a totally old school sound and style.
