DYMNA LOTVA have many reasons to carry the torch of rebellion. The duo had to flee their native Belarus due to political persecution and attempts by the Lukashenka dictatorship to censure and suppress their art. On their third album, "The Land under the Black Wings: Blood" (original, not transcribed tile: "Зямля Пад Чорнымі Крыламі: Кроў"), DYMNA LOTVA continue to sing songs filled with grief and pain. The Belarusians have beautifully and powerfully enhanced their very personal style. With a solid base in black metal, but also taking many elements from doom as well as traditional music, the duo has moved beyond the post-black metal tag and created melancholic, haunting melodies that bear their unmistakable trademark and results in a unique emotional sound. DYMNA LOTVA base their lyrics on true tales from Belarus, which is filled with accounts of sorrow gleaned from historical archives or folklore, while new horrors are committed in their country every day. Composer Jauhien Charkasau and vocalist Katsiaryna "Nokt Aeon" Mankevich date the inception of DYMNA LOTVA to November 8, 2015.
The spark that ignited their musical fire was the news of Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexandrovna Alexievich winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. On the same day, the duo created their first song, which was inspired by the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe and released as a single entitled 'Самотны Чалавечы Голас' ("A Solitary Human Voice") in 2016. This was followed by DYMNA LOTVA's first full-length "The Land under the Black Wings: Swamp" (Зямля пад чорнымі крыламі: Дрыгва) in the same year. The debut album also formed the first part of a conceptual trilogy based on the duo's homeland. With their sophomore album, "Wormwood" (Палын), which is not part of the planned trilogy, DYMNA LOTVA returned to the topic of Chernobyl in 2017. In 2020, DYMNA LOTVA openly supported the protests against their country's dictator Lukashenka. In 2021, following a politically motivated trial of singer Lesley Knife, who was the guest vocalist on the latest single "To Freedom" (Да Волі), all the band's scheduled concerts were officially banned and they had to disband their live line-up. Vocalist Nokt Aeon was forced to leave the country to avoid arrest. The duo intended to reunite in Ukraine, but then Russia invaded the country. Two weeks after the outbreak of war, the singer finally escaped from the heavy fighting around the city of Irpin. Both musicians were later able to meet again in Poland. For DYMNA LOTVA the release of "The Land under the Black Wings: Blood" (Зямля Пад Чорнымі Крыламі: Кроў) is also an act of defiance. Their music can be read in more than one way. By itself it is an extremely beautiful yet also a very painful piece of contemporary metal on the dark end of the spectrum with an audible Belarusian sound. Yet in a wider artistic context, DYMNA LOTVA unleash a furious and mournful cry for freedom and justice with “The Land under the Black Wings: Blood" (Зямля Пад Чорнымі Крыламі: Кроў).

The album covers the whole theatre of fighting the Great War - the Battle of Gallipoli and the involvement of Ataturk, Brusilovsky breakthrough, the Battle of Verdun, gas attack at Ypres, Italian troops Arditi, Christmas truce and the bombing of London by German Zeppelins. WWI does not explored very often in metal, but these Ukrainian brave soldiers make a damn solid case for it. It's stomping, it is heavy as all hell, and just makes you want to get up and march toward death.ù

SULPHUR AEON's “seven crowns and seven seals” is the manifest and at least for now, possibly the peak of a band obsessively creative, passionately and willingly challenging itself to produce music as timeless and original as H.P. Horned Lord Of The Thorned Castle is a perfect combination of the atmosphere from Piercing Through the Frozen Eternity and the rawness of Nightwind: The Conqueror from the Stars, the band’s two EPs released in 2022 and early 2023.

Moonlight Sorcery wants to raise the bar, and these new nine songs have even more melodic hooks and shreddy guitar work. Frozen synth walls further develop the Finnish trio’s unique sound, a vibe you cannot find in any other black metal record.

Horned Lord Of The Thorned Castle follows a specific narrative, and its nine compositions tell a single tale, with every song starting where the previous one left off. “Basically, our debut could be a single 44-minute song”, the band said. Tenebrarium is a new, obscure and esoteric project by Vrajitor, mastermind behind various other musical ventures such as Warmoon Lord and Argenthorns.

The idea for Tenebrarium was planted years ago, but the debut album, mystically titled E.N.L.D. was composed, recorded and mixed in the Winter of 2022-2023. 

Being a lifelong fan of horror and exploitation film music (most particularly Italian) Vrajitor completed the album with the help of various cryptic collaborators. 

Musically inspired by artists and composers like Goblin, Jacula, Devil Doll, Fabio Frizzi, Bruno Nicolai, and Riz Ortolani the lyrics are bizarre stories of black magic and witchcraft. File under occult prog, dungeon funk, and giallo italiano.

The re-release of a startling album

Vemod from Trondheim/Norway are one of the most promising and visionary bands of the vibrant, eclectic contemporary metal underground and have already made quite an impact in well-informed circles. Vemod's first full length album "Venter På Stormene" (English: "waiting for the storms") was originally released in 2012 and is now reissued by Prophecy on a larger scale. Separated into the two parts "Over jord, vandrende" ("throughout the earth, wandering") and "Over himmel, flammende" ("throughout the heavens, flaming"), the album is conceived as a twofold manifestation of inner movements and a rising star, a contemplation upon the yet-again-sacred. The marriage of dark ethereal metal and atmospheric ambient soundscapes celebrates and cultivates the Vemodian essence within the realms of deep feeling: the result after years of slow but steady maturation and a bridge towards the future.
