With an inception going back to 2019, Defacement rapidly gained momentum within the underground realms with two full-length records marked by an intense and experimental take on death and black metal, Deviant (2019) and self-titled Defacement (2021). Three long years after their latest output, the international band flares its cryptic head yet again with an epic tome of twisted and gnarly emanations, an immersive pathway into the void entitled Duality.
Defacement's third studio record is challenging and confrontational in its invocation of primal forces lying dormant in the world below. Inspired by the unfathomable, shadowy corners of human existence, Defacement hatches a penetrating sonic journey, unpredictable in its own dynamic, ever-changing form. Intricate and complex riffing lay as a basis for dexterous melodies, making Duality the most complete and mature among the band’s outputs. The cold and experimental interludes entangled between tracks, serve as halting moments that further the conceptuality of Duality and broaden the gist of the main songs.
The tremendous rhythmic section, a complex and throbbing pulse of drumming fierceness and serpentine bass playing, is superiorly captured by the dynamic and organic production, a vigorous sound that evokes both an oppressive aura and wistful solemnity. Gabriele Gramaglia (Cosmic Putrefaction, Vertebra Atlantis) and Simon Da Silva (Aversio Humanitatis) took care respectively of the mixing and mastering, finely crafting the details of Defacement’s new album.
As the album unfolds, so does the narrative of death's unwritten pages, each track a testament to the inevitability of oblivion. While firmly rooted in black metal, the album is full of variation ranging from fast-paced blasts to doom-like passages and everything in between. The riffs pay homage to the iconic black metal bands of the 90s that shaped the genre, all the while carving out their own distinct trajectory. To create that extra layer of atmosphere, the songs are adorned with evocative acoustic & lead guitars and subtle synths.

Expulsion was formed in November 1988 by Calle Fransson on drums, Anders Holmberg on bass and Stefan Lagergren on guitars. April 1989, Expulsion released their first demo called ‘Cerebral Cessation’. November that year they recorded their second demo ‘Veiled in the mists of mystery’. In 1990 Expulsion entered the Sunlight Studios (Entombed Dismember, Tiamat etc.), to record two tracks produced by Tomas Skogsberg. After these recordings Expulsion split up due to military services of the band members and reformed with 2 new members 2 years later. Their first new release was the ‘A Bitter Twist of Fate’ 3 track mini cd.
This self-released mini cd is now a much sought after album and is for sale on eBay and discogs for 250 to 400 euros. Now finally re-issued, including one special bonus track "Let the Ravens Fly" (taken from the ‘History of Things to Come’ comp cd, 1994). The booklet contains liner notes, rare pictures and has the original artwork restored.

Deep within the Hyperborean mists there lies a pale blue light. It is the light of a flame whose embers have been smoldering long and low, awaiting the day when it will engulf the sky in brilliant and terrible cerulean Aurora. That day has come. Formed in 2006 as the singular musical vision of Vaedis, Vimur is a black metal band from the American South. Despite its hot, humid origins, Vimur's sound has a layer of icy frost seemingly shipped from beyond space and time.
Along the years, Vimur evolved into a full live-performing band, releasing three studio full-length albums, one EP and one live record. 2024 marks the collaboration between the Georgia-based band with long-standing Italian label Avantgarde Music to release the band’s fourth album, The Timeless Everpresent.
We asked the band to introduce the album in their own words. This is what seeped through the cracks of Vimur lair. “Forms change but ideas are eternal. Vimur is black metal totality and a conduit to the truth that lies hidden beyond the stars. The Timeless Everpresent is a revelation of vital energy and power. It is a soundtrack to the grand cosmic war that has existed since the beginning of time. No stone is left unturned. The vanguard knows that the war is fought on the physical, mental, and spiritual planes. This is reflected in the multi-dimensional sound achieved on The Timeless Everpresent. There are passages that reflect the blood, steel, and sweat of physical battle and others that are undeniably ascendent, making the listener aware of truths beyond material existence. The Timeless Everpresent is a collection of war hymns to destroy all illusion. Vimur reclaims the fire to light the mysteries. Flaming spears and swords in hand aimed at the heavens, nothing will stop Vimur from reaching the Sun behind the Sun whether the enemy be man or divine."

The band is embodied by Jason Netherton (Misery Index, Asphalt Graves, ex Dying Fetus) on vocals, Francesco Conte (Spiritual Front, Nero Omega, ex Klimt 1918) on guitar, Marco Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Inno, Buffalo Grillz) on bass and Dario Casabona (Griefbringer, ex Schizo, Sinoath) on drums.
Born in the Cerverteri Necropolis under the blood moon of the Italian summer solstice, SULPHUR AND MERCURY forge haunted dirges of occultic heavy metal from the fires of its glorious past. Elements of Frostian apocalyptic doom are summoned and collide with the melodic instincts of the NWOBHM, manifesting caustic anthems to the arcane arts. The group came together in 2021, when guitarist Francesco Conte and vocalist Jason Netherton bonded over their shared affinity for the darker incantations of 1980s heavy metal, along the lines of Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Satan and Sabbat (UK).
The pair were later joined by drummer Dario Casabona and bassist Marco Mastrobuono, after which they commenced to songwriting and then recording in 2022. Like soothsayers channelling the spirit of ‘87 (a year pivotal for both Conte and Netherton in their metal edification), the band explicitly invoke the ghosts of metal’s past, in order to hammer it into a distinctly modern vision.
The outcome is the 6 track EP "Alchemia Prophetica". Featuring 4 original songs and a cover of Satan's demo-era anthem "Heads Will Roll", the EP stands as an ode to the glory of heavy metal’s yesteryear in the form of haunting anthems to the unknown and otherworldly.
