Knelt Rote has emerged over the past few years as something of an anomaly in the underground. While the band’s earliest work veered heavily into Grindcore, the band’s style has broadened considerably over the past several releases as the band has fleshed out the composition of its tracks and added more elements of Death and Black metal into its body of work. Listening to the band’s third full-length, “Trespass,” it is clear that Knelt Rote executes these more nuanced strains of extreme metal with a rare sense of precision and focus. What further separates Knelt Rote from its peers is the heavy Harsh Noise influence that the band incorporates into its work adding additional layers of depth and dimension.

Recorded after Rotting Christ?s debut MLP ?Passage to Arcturo,? these recordings detail the accretion of elements that would ultimately collide in a magnificent manner on the band?s masterpiece ?Thy Mighty Contract.? These recordings show Rotting Christ seeking the perfect balance between the epic and the visceral and are all deeply stained with the morose and melancholy romanticism that Rotting Christ perfected before anyone else. Rotting Christ illuminated this particular chamber of Black Metal permitting a number of other bands of varying degrees of quality to rush in and try to follow; however, rarely has there been a Black Metal band as successful as Rotting Christ in generating a sense of atmosphere and emotional depth while simultaneously maintaining the cataclysmic potency of the music. To honor Rotting Christ?s legacy, NWN! presents this 3 x 7? EP collection featuring reissues of the ?Ade?s Winds? demo and the ?Dawn of the Iconoclast? and ?Apokathilosis? EPs. With artwork by Manuel Tinnemans and design/layout work by TLMNN, this is among the definitive releases in the Rotting Christ catalog.

Debut from the 4-piece, Floridian muck dwellers Gnosis. Despite touches of Norwegian blackness this is pretty old school sounding shit with many nods to the classics. There’s no overproduction hanging on the meathook in Gnosis’ butcher shack.
You get a bit of Obituary and Morbid Angel’s rampant brutality burl, the thick and mid-paced doom undertones of Incantation and Vore with a little sprinkling of Slayer. Despite blasts, double-bass and a pretty retching vocalist these guys are hardly the fastest and most technical lot to throw down.

 

Includes both the self-titled “Nocturnus” demo and the second “The Science of Horror” demo. Features appropriately and tastefully updated artwork from the renowned Zbigniew Bielak. Vinyl LP version includes gatefold jacket, poster, and a 40-plus-page zine style booklet with the most comprehensive early Nocturnus bio ever written, rare band photos, and flyer images from this critical period of Nocturnus’s death metal reign.
