---------
Mayhem, the Norwegian pioneers responsible for invigorating the global Metal scene, alongside the likes of Venom, Celtic Frost and Bathory, formed in 1984. With a long history of tragedy, intrigue and infamy behind them, the band have become truly revered legends of Black Metal, with a large part of their legacy established in the late 1980s & early 1990s (when guitarist Euronymous and bassist Necrobutcher welcomed Hellhammer on drums and Dead on vocals, to help shape a new era of darkness and Armageddon).
Henhouse Recordings contains tracks from Mayhem’s rehearsal sessions from 1989, featuring material from the Deathcrush release, and also tracks which would eventually surface in 1994 on the band’s debut album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. A never-released track is also included, parts of which would later be used by Norwegian legends, Emperor. One of only a handful of Mayhem recordings to feature iconic vocalist, Per “Dead” Ohlin before his suicide in 1991, Henhouse Recordings is another essential piece of Black Metal history.
To mark its 30th anniversary, limited white vinyl editon of the 1992 debut release by The Gathering.
An Atmosperic Doom masterclass of slow, funereal riffing, dark ambience and brutal vocals.
The Gathering is a Dutch alternative rock band, and was founded in 1989 by brothers Hans and René Rutten and vocalist Bart Smits. The early incarnation of the band featured a much more death and doom metal based style than the more atmospheric rock and experimental music they became known for over the years, having enjoyed a highly successful career globally over a 20 year period. The band recorded 2 demos initially before making their studio debut with ‘Always…’.
‘Always…’ was The Gathering’s debut full-length album. Originally released in 1992 , it is a prime example of classic atmospheric death/doom metal with brutal vocals and slow funereal riffing influenced by bands such as Celtic Frost, as well as the implementation of keyboards to accentuate the dark ambience. Now released on Peaceville for the first time, a track from the release was even featured on an early Peaceville Records compilation, ’Volume 4’, with the track ‘In Sickness and Health‘.
