Creating stunning concoction of walls of unrelenting primal aggression with a punishingly stark and brutal sound, Pitchshifter had found a highly effective signature sound to build upon when they entered Lion Studios in Leeds, in September 1990 (with Industrial coming together in a mere 72 hour)s. Upon the album's release, the band found supported acts such as Napalm Death and Paradise Lost, and notably caught the attention of John Peel(who invited Pitchshifter to perform a prestigious Peel Session).

Diabolical Masquerade was the solo-project created by Katatonia's Anders 'Blakkheim' Nyström in 1996, to let off more creative steam away from the gothic/doom metal styling of Katatonia.
Nightwork, DM's third album, was recorded at The Sanctuary in April 1998 and produced by Dan Swan (Opeth, Katatonia) with Blakkheim.
Although a solo-project, Blakkheim enlisted the help of Dan Swan to perform the drums, as well as contributing with some keyboards and backing vocals.
Diabolical Masquerade was based primarily around symphonic/melodic black metal; creating eerie atmospheres through keyboards and utilizing more high energy & technical compositions than those of his main band, with complex patterns of riffs and hooks. This particular album saw a greater integration of synths than previously, to convey a strong horror theme. To further expand this atmosphere, cello and flute were also incorporated.

Released in 1997, The Phantom Lodge was the second of four albums from this symphonic extreme Metal solo-project (before the band was ended in September 2004).
Diabolical Masquerade was based primarily around symphonic/melodic Black Metal. Strong atmospheres were created through layered guitar and keyboards (and notably, flute, on this album), and Blackheim’s compositions contained more up tempo and extreme elements than those of Katatonia, with cold, dark riffs with a firm emphasis on mood, given life with strong fantasy-based lyrics.
The Phantom Lodge was a natural progression from debut album Ravendusk In My Heart; delving further into the realm of experimentation and atmospherics.
The album was recorded at Unisound, September 1996 and was produced and mixed by Dan Swano (Opeth, Marduk, Dissection) and Blackheim.
The ambitious Death’s Design was the fourth and final album by Katatonia's Anders 'Blakkheim’ Nyström's Symphonic Extreme Metal solo-project, Diabolical Masquerade.
Containing atmospheric synth and sound effects throughout and featuring the Maalten Quartet (Estonia), Death’s Design offers ab orchestral and epic experience mixed with Black and traditional Metal influences. The album consists of 61 seamlessly flowing segments, grouped into 20 movements.

Critical Madness: The Demo Years compiles the classic earliest works of 'the kings of sickness' in their formative years.
The Demo Years leads with Autopsy’s first demo from 1987, along with 1988’s legendary Critical Madness demo, which resulted in the band signing with Peaceville to release its genre staple debut, 1989’s Severed Survival.
The release is completed by the rare track Christ Denied, plus a selection of raw rehearsal recordings of material from 1987 and 1988, most of which would later feature on the band’s studio debut.
Eastern Darkness features an extensive collection of cult Japanese Black Metal legends Sigh's early demos, EPs and rarities.

Norwegian band Gehenna was formed in early 1993, with the recording of their cult ’Black Seared Heart’ demo taking place later that same year, followed shortly by the release of the debut 7” Ancestors of the Darkly Sky. Gehenna became known for their melodic and grim black metal, with symphonic elements adding greatly to the atmosphere of the music, particularly on early releases. The band’s style progressed over the years, taking on more death and thrash metal elements at times before returning to a more black metal focussed sound.
Adimiron Black was the band’s fourth album, which originally surfaced in 1998, & edged further away from the earlier black metal gothic-tinged symphonics to a more brutal crossover of death & black metal, whilst still retaining a few of the band’s trademark keyboard atmospherics. The result is often hailed as a highlight of the genre releases of the latter part of the 90s.

On the back of 2019’s triumphant Old Star opus, the duo of Nocturno Culto & Fenriz present a 41 minute maelstrom of Epic Black Heavy Metal across five sprawling compositions. Organic and dynamic, the album is an exploration of the finest vintage Metal and the best of Doom, all delivered in the unmistakable Darkthrone style (whilst also incorporating instruments such as the Moog to further expand upon these soundscapes).
Eschewing the process of using their own Necrohell II studios - which has served the band so well over the last 15 years - and welcoming a change of environment and the opportunity to experiment with new ideas, Eternal Hails…… was recorded at Chaka Khan Studio in Oslo, and engineered by Ole Ovstedal and Silje Høgevold, breathing new life into the sound while retaining the essence of Darkthrone’s natural, raw feeling.
The cover artwork features the piece Pluto and Charon (1972), from renowned science fiction artist David A. Hardy; a hugely inspirational image for both Fenriz and Nocturno Culto spanning several decades, and this also stands as a symbolic link between the genre-bending styles apparent on Darkthrone’s earliest works, to those same traits evident on Eternal Hails….
