Katla is an Icelandic band featuring ex-Sólstafir drummer and visual artist Guðmundur Óli Pálmason and singer/multi-instrumentalist Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson (Fortíð, Potentiam). Named in tribute to one of Iceland's greatest active volcanos, Katla creates powerful, panoramic music where shimmering guitars, crushing melodies and atmospheric density meet dark, entrancing power.
Katla's debut album, "Móðurástin", shines a spotlight on the band's hook-heavy, horizon-stretching sound. The lyrics tell tales of living in a country of contrasts; a land where fire and ice co-exist and dark winters are offset by the summer's midnight sun. Iceland: a country where insular existence has spurred a rich and vibrant culture.
"Móðurástin", Icelandic for (a) Mother's Love, might seem like a strange title for a metal album, but Katla dares to be different. What on Earth is stronger than a mother's love? Nothing. Not hate, not lust, not greed.

The musical puzzle that adds up to become DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turns into something more complex – yet also clearer defined on the band's fourth studio album, 'Finisterre'. The original pieces are still in play: the aggressive German directness akin to ENDSTILLE and a penchant for brooding melancholy as embodied by IMPERIUM DEKADENZ. Spiralling psychedelic moments comparable to DEAFHEAVEN and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM also find their place – as well as a knack for majestic melodies that shows parallels in Swedish black metal spearheaded by MARDUK and DARK FUNERAL. Yet while DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT are clearly progressing along the lines laid out by their previous acclaimed effort, 'Stellar', the band has found a way to make these pieces fit more seamlessly. 'Finisterre' flows together into a coherent picture that stresses the Germans’ unique approach and sound. This album marks the point where DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turn their various influences into a work entirely of their own expression despite never trying to cover up their roots. This impressive maturity has been reached through several stages.
"The Sachem's Tales is an amazing work of solid, agonizing and intense feelings cutting black metal. Behind the music there lies a melodic agreement with the guitars and the synthesizer sounds, kind of giving a counterpoint to each, but all joining in the end for fantastic melodic landscapes. Ito The Arcane hails from The Netherlands and was formed in January 2016 by (ex) Dead End members Jeroen van Riet, Gunther Weerepas and Alwin Roes. Into The Arcane delivers atmospheric doom metalheavily rooted in old school death metal. "Het Verlangen der Geest" is their debut. The lyrics concern the darker corners of the mind and arcane historic tales. The band is currently promoting the EP and working on a full length album, to be expected in the winter of 2017/2018.
