Barren Canyon, the reclusive Canadian act formed by the mysterious duo of multi-instrumentalists Maikan and Absent, re-emerge with A Virulent Steam, their second release for Avantgarde Music after eight years of silence. Whereas 2018’s World of Wounds contrasted bursts of metal with cold ambient passages, Barren Canyon now return transformed, melding their influences into a tempered miasmic haze. Warmer synth tones drift and swell like a toxic fog, diffusing into harsher textures.
Taking the idea of “atmospheric metal” seriously and literally, A Virulent Stream draws both musically and lyrically upon themes of noxious air, suffocation, and the airborne contaminants of industrial society. The very cover picture is a statement in itself, as the band chose “Smoke from the continuously operating steel plants gives Birmingham its
spectacular nighttime red-orange glow” by Leroy Woodson to visually introduce their opus.

Olde Throne is a melodic and atmospheric black metal band born in a time when main composer and frontman Harrison McKenzie was living in Glencoe, Scotland. Even after moving back to his native New Zealand, McKenzie felt deeply inspired by his experience in the highlands, and this project was the result of such inspiration. Olde Throne released two studio albums under this monicker, An Gorta Mór (2022) and In the Land of Ghosts (2023). Two years later, the man from Christchurch signs with Italian long-standing label Avantgarde Music to release their third full-length album, Megalith.
Two years in its creation, Megalith is a primal journey into the depths of prehistory. Where previous albums explored the strife of 19th-century Ireland (An Gorta Mór) and the spectral lore of 17th- and 18th-century Scotland (In the Land of Ghosts), Megalith delves into the primordial darkness of the Neolithic age. Drawing inspiration from stories of Celtic mythology, the album’s narrative is rooted in tales dating back as far as 10,000 BC. The use of flutes, throat singing and tribal drums forges an immersive brand of Neolithic Black Metal.

Void of Hope is a Finnish black metal trio born during a recording session. The whole album was composed and recorded in five days in the studio with -30°, -35° outside and in complete darkness for most of the day. Screams took place later and were recorded in 2 days.
Void of Hope includes members from Moonlight Sorcery and Ondfødt and consider themselves influenced by bands like Gris, Silencer, Lifelover, Coldworld and Austere.
Void of Hope can be a place or a state of mind, and their debut album Proof Of Existence is a journey through mental health and depression, the outcome of which may be triumph or giving up. Proof Of Existence started as depressive black metal but grew into much more.
Void of Hope is not an anonymous band, yet they do not consider their identities relevant, as regardless of what names are printed in the album, the music is all that matters.
The horrors of reality are the proof of your existence, and they will be brought to you via Avantgarde Music on January 31st, 2025.

Moonlight Sorcery is a Finnish black metal trio formed in early 2018. The band’s black metal is a symphonic and melodic variety by nature. Inspired by many black metal classics as well as classic heavy metal and melodic death metal, the band indeed has a huge palette of influences, which is directly reflected in the versatility of the song material.
Piercing Through the Frozen Eternity, the band first EP, was worked on as the icy winds blew and winter did its magic. In all the peace and quiet. The silver-saturated nights of the moon rushed to the melodies that breathe sorrow and the eternal majesty of the cold stars.

Three years after their fascinating debut, Suicide Forest is back with Reluctantly, a sophomore album which further develops their art. Taking their name from the Japanese Aokigahara forest, where many troubled
people travel to end their life, the one-man band from Tucson, Az., moves from classic depressive black metal coordinates and expands their sound palette. As a result, Reluctantly settles somewhere in between DSBM, atmospheric black metal and post-black/blackgaze.
The perfect company for restless souls, Reluctantly reminds of the eerie keyboard patterns of Burzum and the dilated atmospheres of contemporary US black metal pillars like Ash Borer, mixed with some unpredictable twists such as dissonant riffs and solos. Suicide Forest will please both those looking for furious up-tempos and the more introvert blacksters, looking for a sanctuary from the outside world.
Multi-instrumentalist and mastermind A.Kruger wrote Reluctantly in the second half of 2019, before the pandemic struck us all, but began tracking the album at his home studio in early 2020. About the lyrics, when asked what themes inform his work, he plainly replied: The whole album focuses
on the themes of resent and isolation, feelings that were only compounded considering the entirety of Reluctanlty was recorded during the covid-19 lockdown”.
