Valdrin is a U.S.-based melodic black metal band known for their intricate compositions, storytelling prowess, and immersive soundscapes. Since their 2010 inception, the Cincinnati-based band has been focusing on building their own narrative, skillfully crafting an elaborate sci-fi saga. Apex Violator is the latest chapter in the ongoing epic.
If classic outputs from DARKTHRONE, ENSLAVED, EMPEROR or ISENGARD et al. make your blood boil, you should make sure to purchase HERSIR`s album and immerse yourself in its Northern Black Metal excellence. Despite having already been incepted in 2016 by Grim Vindkall who is primarily known for his band DOMGÅRD, Swedish HERSIR have up until this point kept a rather low profile. With only three demos to their name – none of which released physically – the horde has remained a rather obscure entity. Once released, chances are that the sheer quality of HERSIR`s first full-length effort Hateful Draugar From The Underground will rectify that situation in no time, though. Completely devoid of unnecessary gimmicks of any sorts, HERSIR are all content and no show. For a change, everything – the well-written lyrics dealing with Nordic spirituality of the shadow side, the music, the visual presentation – feels genuine and without any infantile pretence. Their very aptly titled album convinces with hateful and majestic Black Metal of a distinctively northern nature. The vocals brimming with contempt and savagery are one of the highlights of the full-length. Vocalist Haugbúi’s rather low, raspy tone and pestilent delivery seem like the perfect fit for HERSIR’s rather simple and stripped-down compositions. Overtly complex structures are left out to augment the war-like quality of the recording and in favour of conjuring epic atmospheres often built upon melodies stemming from the old Nordic tradition. The impact of some of the memorable riffs is further increased by the sporadic inclusion of keyboards. Overall, this album is the real deal and deserves to be attentively listened to by anyone into genuinely dark Black Metal.
"True to its name, Wolves In The Throne Room has always painted between the lines of barbaric and regal. For over a decade it has been this between-space that has driven WITTR's power; burning black-metal riffs communing with mystical folk and ambient music." - NPR
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM celebrate two decades as one of the most evocative and unique bands in North American Black Metal with the anniversary release of their original 2005 Demo! Originally recorded in Olympia, Washington as a prelude to the band's landmark "Diadem of 12 Stars" full length, the 2005 Demo features the original versions of "Queen of the Borrowed Light", the exclusive track "Dagger of Amethyst Crystal", and "(A Shimmering Radiance) Diadem of Twelve Stars".
This is where it all began, the 1994 debut which shook the European Black Metal scene upon its foundations.
Originally released on cult imprint Cacophonous Records, CRADLE OF FILTH first album is now available for the first time over a decade on noble vinyl but also on picture vinyl, digibook-CD and tape.
While still bearing few traces of their Death Metal roots, The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh remains an unique sounding album to this day, drenched in gothic atmospheres and vampiric themes. A true masterpiece which immediately spawned many imitators, although none managed to match their intensity and undeniable British flair.
Pure cult!
Luxurious hardcover digibook-CD with 20-page booklet.
New liner-notes by Olivier ‘Zoltar’ Badin.
Although it had a very troubled birth, all detailed in the liner notes included with those different versions here, CRADLE OF FILTH almost-album-length 1996 EP V Empire, Or Dark Faerytales In Phallustein proved to be a superb triumph over adversity.
Despite all their legal problems, line-up changes and insane pressure after the gigantic success of their debut album, the Brits nevertheless managed to write and record a slab of new even grander songs, next to a new version of the already classic ‘The Forest Whispers My Name’, some would argue even bettering their debut in the process.
Another undeniable 90s symphonic black metal masterpiece, available again for the first time officially since 2017!
Luxurious hardcover digibook-CD with 24-page booklet.
New liner-notes by Olivier ‘Zoltar’ Badin.
Remastered from the original 1996 DAT by Patrick W. Engel at TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY in January 2025.
Until 2016, very few people had access to the original version of CRADLE OF FILTH follow-up to their hugely successful debut album The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh.
Entangled in legal problems with their former label and with few of their key members about to jump ship to form THE BLOOD DIVINE, this recording was seemingly doomed to fail. It thus remained locked up in the vault for over twenty-one years, the band having decided ultimately to shelve it and quickly record and release the V Empire, Dark Faerytales In Phallustein EP instead, before committing to tape another version of this album with a revamped line-up and new arrangements.
Having heard the fans’ plea, Dani Filth finally agreed to issue it officially for the first time in 2016 after remastering it with the help of famed producer and longtime collaborator Scott Atkins (AMON AMARTH, VADER, GAMA BOMB, BENEDICTION).
Luxurious hardcover digibook-CD with 24-page booklet.
New liner-notes by Olivier ‘Zoltar’ Badin.
With 12 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1.250 shows under their belts so far, it is high time ROTTING CHRIST get a proper compilation spanning their 30+ years career. The 2-CD set 'Their Greatest Spells' takes a retrospective look at the cult Greek band's fascinating musical development by picking a select choice of key tracks covering the many facets of ROTTING CHRIST. With such a massive catalogue, a "best of" compilation will always lead to controversy about certain additions as well as omissions from the final list, but the involvement of frontman Sakis Tolis himself in this difficult task ensures that the result is at least relevant.
