Released in 1998, "Odin Owns Ye All" is the second full-length studio album by Einherjer. It’s a fascinating, if slightly polarizing, chapter in the history of Viking Metal because it marked a distinct departure from the cold, black-metal-influenced sound of their debut "Dragons of the North". While their earlier work was rooted in the atmospheric and aggressive Second Wave of Black Metal, "Odin Owns Ye All" leans heavily into Heavy Metal territory. The guitar work is much more rhythmic and "groove-oriented" than the tremolo-picking found in traditional Norwegian metal and the sound is cleaner and punchier, losing the raw, lo-fi aesthetic of the mid-90s in favor of a more polished, rock n' roll Viking vibe. One of the most notable changes is the vocal delivery of Ragnar Vikse: instead of the typical black metal shriek, Vikse utilizes a unique, raspy, and melodic approach. It feels more theatrical and storytelling-driven, which fits the epic themes of Norse mythology but was quite a surprise to fans at the time.

 Released in 1998, "Far Far North" is a cult-classic release by the Norwegian band Einherjer. While technically an EP, it is often cited as a definitive moment for the band, bridging the gap between raw black metal roots and epic, melodic storytelling. Unlike their debut album Dragons of the North, which featured a more aggressive, traditional black metal vocal style, "Far Far North" introduced a shift toward melodic Viking Metal. "Far Far North", the title track, is an absolute anthem. It’s known for its catchy, galloping rhythm and a chorus that practically demands you grab a drinking horn. It’s one of the band's most recognizable songs. Released at the time via Century Media, this EP helped solidify Einherjer as leaders of the second wave of Viking Metal. While bands like Bathory pioneered the genre, Einherjer are among those who refined the Viking metal aesthetic—blending heavy metal structures with Norse mythology and folk-inspired melodies

For over 25 years now, Sargeist - led by erstwhile HORNA guitarist / songwriter Shatraug, who's arguably the most prolific metal musician of that same period - have been at the forefront of the ever-fertile Finnish black metal scene. In fact, alongside HORNA, one could say that SARGEIST are the most influential band of that scene, which has gone on to influence countless other worldwide scenes in this millennium.

As has been the way since 2018's significant Unbound full-length, which saw the arrival of erstwhile Nightbringer / Demoncy guitarist VJS among others, Flame Within Flame also sees the arrival of more new members: longtime HORNA frontman Spellgoth on bass and prolific drummer Nur-i-siyah, who's played with Nawaharjan and Decapitated Christ among others. And while that "classic" SARGEIST lineup that included longstanding co-conspirators Torog and Horns (vocals and drums, respectively) certainly set an enviably high standard, Shatraug and crew continue undaunted, arguably more invigorated than ever. Indeed, Flame Within Flame is presciently titled, for the band's spirit is unextinguishable and unquenchable, seemingly infinite in inspiration whilst remaining characteristically - and DEADLY - focused. From the album's opening seconds, this is classic, burning-with-desperation SARGEIST, but immerse thyself in its icily shimmering waters ever so deeper and one will find that there's an almost-melancholic touch to Shatraug & VJS's riff-sorcery. What results is perhaps the band's most atmospheric record to date - credit, too, to the spacious-yet-immediate production - but one still pulsing with ragged, burning-black emotion: truly, the enduring hallmark of SARGEIST's eternal aesthetic. Of especial note is Shatraug resuming vocals, which he hasn't done since the band's early demo days. Return, once again, to misery and comfort with Flame Within Flame!

After celebrating its 10th anniversary in early 2025 with a special release (with a completely different artwork that remains exclusive to that edition), ENISUM's break-through album "Arpitanian Lands" is now available again in its original art form, although heavily revised.
