Sunn O))) (pronounced simply "Sunn") is an American doom/drone metal/dark ambient band consistingof Stephen O'Malley(Khanate, Burning Witch) and Greg Anderson (Goatsnake). The band was formedas a tribute to Earth, another very heavy bandand pioneers of drone metal.

Their sound is extremely slow and heavy, using droning guitars accompanied by feedback and othersound effects to create theirsoundscapes. There is very little drumming and a lack of any discerniblebeat. When playing live the band wear long hoodedcloaks, and create such a powerful sonic attackaround themselves, that it's said to cause headaches and involuntary bowelmovements due to theextremely heavy bass. The latter condition is likely no more than urban legend, however.
