Back in the early 80s, the Danish heavy metal scene was taking its first steps, learning a (very) own path away from the strong rock and punk rock backgrounds that the country provided their youth. Those were the years where the highly acclaimed metal bands Mercyful Fate and Artillery took form. But also a few others that, in the following years, saw their career follow different paths and fates, loading to disbanding with a band or simply fading away. Formed in 1983,
Copenhagen-natives EVIL were one of these bands. Their debut demo, already in ‘83, set the Danish heavy metal on fire with their heavy metal frenzy and their now-mythical 1984 EP “Evil’s Message” was the confirmation that Denmark had probably one of the strongest metal scenes in Europe back then. Unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to last and the band disappeared from circulation in 1985.
A return to action was later tried in 2015, with original drummer Freddie Wolf, now on guitars, leading a new line-up that released the debut album “Shoot The Messenger”. But Evil’s career
still wasn’t meant to be and the band laid dormant again... Until now!
The mighty Evil is now re-born with new joining members including vocalist Martin Steene (Iron Fire, ex-Force Of Evil), drummer Henrik Molin (ex-Shadowspawn), bassist Jakob Haugaard (Iron Fire) and guitarist Nikolaj Ihlemann (ex-Nightlight), continuing the original inspirations of bands like Judas Priest and Accept.
Pale Awakening is the debut album by The Frozen Autumn, which originally saw the light in 1995 following the demotape Oblivion and various live gigs in Italy and abroad. These led to the CD release of this concept album with crepuscular sounds, at times inspired by the sound of 4AD and Projekt Records.
Ten pieces that unfold between reflective and atmospheric moments, imbued with melancholy with more rhythmic openings, yet always characterized by a common feature: the oniric plane, the certainty of the existence of parallel realities, the escape from everyday life to embark on an inner journey, aware that "there is something beyond".
27 years after the first edition, Avantgarde Music re-releases Pale Awakening in two valuable collectible formats: 12 "colored double vinyl in a gatefold cover with lyrics, and digipak CD with booklet containing pictures, verses and bonus tracks.
2022 Repress: gatefold cover, double LP Crystal clear vinyl
2022 Repress: gatefold cover, double LP "color in color" effect: Silver in Crystal clear, very limited

On their debut album "Aegis", FLAME, DEAR FLAME have erected a truly distinct sound, characterized by the stirring performance of vocalist Maren Lemke, whose simultaneously airy yet powerful voice fuses with the memorable riff craft on display to create 7 towering tracks that are sure to capture the ears of listeners eager to hear an innovative take on a genre that too often conforms to stereotypes.
"Aegis" is a work thematically divided into two parts. The first part, entitled "The Millennial Heartbeat", details the genesis of the ocean and the thanatography of the land, a testimony of the forces of nature and its frailty alike, performed in three movements and featuring a classical epic doom approach, rife with gargantuan riffs and percussion as well as soaring clean vocals, yet interspersed with thoughtfully placed and paced clean sections. Serving as a contrasting and complementary second part of the album, "The Wolves and the Prioress" consists of four movements focusing more on acoustic folk elements, further enriching FLAME, DEAR FLAME's engrossing sound, and details the story of a feral child that falls into the custody of a sage prioress.
All of these elements result in a unique combination of righteous doom and subtle, yet noble acoustic folk. Each track is accompanied by a visual representation composed by Karmazid. The culmination of the album’s visuals is its stark cover artwork, laden with elegant symbolism in rich detail, created by Kodex Barbaricus.
Mara, the Swedish Pagan Black Metal Horde returns with their 4th Full length album «Loka Mær». Stronger than before, the horde unleashes 6 new songs in the very same style as their predecessor “RÖK”. The sound of Mara is clear, ferocious, hateful and very much entangled with the fury of 2nd wave Scandinavian Black Metal, like it should be!
“Loka Mær” is therefore a godlike album in the Pagan Black Metal genre and will surely stand out among the masses. A true treat to every Pagan but also 2nd wave Black Metal fan who adore the old school sound of true Scandinavian Black Metal!
20 page booklet and full artwork design.
«The Bitter End of Old» is the 9th full length album by the Portuguese Black Metal Legends Corpus Christii. On this opus the band have seem to find a way to surpass all their previous records in production as well on musical approach by a clear mile. A combination of old school black metal tradition with new sought elements that create a blasphemous atmosphere filled with darkness and evil.
The guitars are mesmerizing, filled with heaviness and the right dose of melodies where the bass guitar underlines the heaviness and yet have a clear production together. The drums have their own pattern and stand out by delivering the right punch on the snare and kick, finalized by the exact same punch on the fill sound. And last but not least, the vocals are harsh, hateful and preach pure torment and blasphemy.

Clearer, cutting, and more crushing, Disembodied doesn't so much as dispense with the previous album's style as it simply sharpens it to a dangerous degree. Indeed, INSINERATEHYMN give a masterclass in '90s death metal, from the spiraling vortexes of early Tampa to the sewage to come from New York, on to eerie emanations from Europe and the dissonance at the dawn of the new millennium. Naturally, the band bend those classic tropes in a variety of ways, all of which bespeak their own identity: scuzzy, slicing, clanging, angular, brutal beatdown, ignorant stomp, or just straightforward killshot - no weapon is left aside. Simply, Disembodied is a death metal record for death metal maniacs, by death metal maniacs who understand and appreciate the rich-yet-codified history of the genre.
