Although a brand new entity to some, Proscription’s origins can be traced all the way to the late ’90s, back when Terry “Christbutcher” Clark was still living in his native Colorado, learning to raise hell with Excommunion. A decade later, after relocating to Finland, Maveth became his new vehicle and over the course of two demos, one album and one split CD, redefined how “dark” death metal ought to be and sound. And while the band’s sudden demise in 2017 took everybody by surprise, instead of resting on his laurels, Christbutcher immediately vowed to follow the same path albeit under a new flag of hate: Proscription. Spearheading a new, broader and even darker sound, this isn’t Maveth Part 2, even more so since Christbutcher is here assisted by a whole new line-up, including Cruciatus from renowned Dark Descent alumni Lantern, who contributed to the music of “Thy Black Nimbus Gate,” for instance. The result is as majestic as it is menacing sounding. Simply put, this is the kind of death metal that can swallow worlds and exterminate all light. Only preceded by one digital-only demo back in 2018, their first album Conduit, recorded between March and June 2019, showcases a new side to Christbutcher’s musical prowess while retaining that suffocating yet catchy trademark touch. Almost symphonic in parts (as hinted by the poignant intro “Four Wings Within The Samiel”) and with a new found sense of morbid melody emphasizing even more their taste for the epic, with a track like “Thy Black Nimbus Gate” almost suggesting the grand opening of the red sea itself, Conduit is not only an extension of Christbutcher’s unique vision, it expands it even more to an almost apocalyptic level. This is just the beginning...

The occultic and atmospheric solo project of Proscriptor McGovern (of ABSU fame) smears an avant-garde style of Pagan music with ‘The Venus Bellona’ – an invigorating and magic(k)al listen to reveal ‘the inner domains of immortality’. Awareness factor: the planet Venus is the sphere closest to the Earth and its longitude is based upon the actual epoch of time. With Venus’ perihelion passage, it is known for a fabulous role as an adulate goddess in Greek mythology. Venus also represents the alchemic(k)al metal of copper, (the fourth “Dalkhu” of fire) whereas “Bellona”, on the other hand, is the Latin term for “war goddess” to complete the bewilderment of the album title. Proscriptor comes to you with ‘The Venus Bellona’ – a collection of deathless fables gathered from a wide variety sources: from his ancestral attributions of Scottish heritage to superstitions and the Dominion folklore of Thoth. Handed down to his shadow from generation to generation, and once told in musky crofters’ cottages and draughty castles, these spellbinding tales of ‘The Venus Bellona’ will thrill and possess followers of all durations. Lightlessness of sound, which is sometimes motionless, is essential in occultic and atmospheric music.

When drummer/vocalist Proscriptor McGovern (Russ R. Givens) dissolved Absu on January 27th 2020, his main intention was to splinter the 30-year old faction into a renewed songwriting concord. Proscriptor McGovern’s Apsû is the obvious by-product of that chemical breakdown, which constitutes a new incarnation and direct continuation of Absu’s legacy. Securing the ranks, alongside McGovern, are continuing bassist/vocalist Ezezu (Absu: 2008-2020), new guitar virtuoso Vaggreaz (Possessed, Gruesome) and keyboardist Vorskaath (Zemial, Agatus). Since Absu’s last, unreleased album was to be penned as “Apsû,” McGovern fused the title with his name to form the group. With this much anticipated, self-titled album, McGovern’s objective was to append the signature sound of “mythological occult metal,” but to convolute it with bouts of psychedelia, fusion and vintage electronics. When Sinister split up in 2003 vocalist (and former drummer) Aad and Sinister guitarist & bass player Alex Paul wanted to continue playing death metal somehow. They started the new band ‘No Face Slave’. The songs they wrote were so close to Sinister so they restarted SINISTER together with drummer Paul Beltman (Weapons To Hunt, ex Judgement Day, Supreme Pain). During 2004 and 2005 they recorded 4 demo tracks. These four tracks formed the SINISTER demo 2005. That demo led to a renewed record deal with Nuclear Blast records. And up till now seven full lenghts studio albums from 2006 up till now.
