Founded in the early ‘90s by former Emperor bassist Tchort, the Norwegian act quickly amassed a cult following thanks to one of the most ambitious epics in metal history. Even before going on hiatus during the mid-2000s, the ever-evolving auteurs still flashed a flare for the dramatic by performing their acoustic verses underneath a mountain dam. However, there was one tale — or three, to be exact — that continued to elude them. Until now. With the ‘A Dark Poem’ trilogy starting now, GREEN CARNATION finally unveil their masterpiece.
The idea for an album trilogy stems from GREEN CARNATION’s earliest yesteryears, but the first part of ‘A Dark Poem’ cites various passages from across their illustrious cannon. Lead single “In Your Paradise” reaches newfound peaks of heaviness, swept out to sea by sublime riffs and somber symphonic flourishes. While navigated with the band’s familiar mastery, the view from ‘The Shores of Melancholia’ is far from heavenly. Judgement day appears around every corner, steering them from the title track’s scarlet clouds of war toward Floydian whirlpools drenched in paranoia before being shipwrecked by second wave black metal.
“A lesson learned, now bridges burn”, bearded captain Kjetil Nordhus cries out with impassioned cleans, as if tied to the mast during the album’s fiery send-off.

Since forming in 2009, DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT has carved out a singular place in modern black metal, blending relentless intensity with a philosophical core. Tolkien, the duo aim to match the source material's scope and grandeur with unique cinematic compositions which transport listeners directly to Middle-earth.
Originally active 2004-2010, when they released cult 2008 debut album "Hymns over Anfauglith", ANFAUGLIR are now resurrected in glorious style to unleash a new suite of rousing, emotive and triumphant longform manifestations of a legendary mystical world.
Avoiding traditional song structures, the immaculately-produced new opus "Akallabêth" - meaning 'The Downfallen' in Adûnaic, the language of Tolkein's Númenoreans - is written and arranged in the vein of a traditional classical symphony. "Nechrist" is probably the most peculiar record in Nokturnal Mortum's catalogue, simply because it's different from anything else they've done.
This is by far their angriest, fastest, darkest and most aggressive record, and as such it's often labelled as "messy" or "chaotic": while it might result a bit difficult to digest during the first listens, "Nechrist" is a grower, and its beauty will slowly unfold to the listener each time he comes back to it.
The album's production is quite raw, making a bit difficult to distinguish the fastest guitar patterns at times; the riffs generally consist in the traditional black metal tremolo picked frenzy, although slower sections are obviously present, with some interesting bridges here and there (the "breakdown" found at the end of "Night Before the Fight" is simply amazing).
The bass isn't always audible, but where you can hear it you can say its patterns are definitely interesting.
The drumming is astonishing, a real storm of blast beats and relentless double bass drumming, thus confirming Munruthel as the most technical drummer this band has ever laid its hands on.
