Following close on the heels of last year's digital-only debut album Jaundiced Hag of the Wood, Norwegian entity GRYLA make an even-stronger case for black metal supremacy with The Redeemer's Festering Carcass. Like that dark-horse debut, GRYLA's second album features a similar schematic - ripping 'n' roiling riffcraft, forward momentum whipped into a continual crescendo, tension and release waging a wondrous war - but a sound that's strangely classic and modern simultaneously. The work of one prodigiously young Torbjørn Kirby Torbo, GRYLA honor early domestic touchstones like Gorgoroth and Dødheimsgard's respective first albums as well as Kvist's lone album and Sorhin's '90s recordings whilst twisting the knife in different-yet-honorable ways. For one, Torbo's skewed melodicism nods the various schools of dissonant BM the past few decades; for another, there's often a clanging, minimal-is-maximal punkishness that reminds of Bone Awl's influential tapes or Carved Cross more recently. Put all together - and again, with RIFFS to infinity and beyond - The Redeemer's Festering Carcass breathes rotten, refreshing life in strident second-wave classicism

Hailing from the ever-fertile Finnish black metal scene, MOONFALL's origins date back to 2008. The duo released one demo in 2010, Ad Majorem Sathanae Gloriam, before disbanding the next year. The band reactivated in 2020 and released a demo, with a split with Regere Sinister the following year.

However, this duo - Goatprayer and Black Moon Necromancer, both of whom handle multiple instruments depending on the recording - have been insanely prolific together, currently playing in the esteemed Witchcraft as well as other such cults as Necromonarchia Daemonum, Funerealm Gloom, Darkera, and Infernathan. Even separately, both men are notable: among many others, Goatprayer maintains the monolithic CEREMONIAL TORTURE while Black Moon Necromancer currently plays guitar for the legendary Beherit.

Age of Eternal Night is a dark and immersive concept album that continues the story of the first album: 

The nameless pilgrim who descended into the darkness of an ancient tomb in the desert sands of Sumer - thirsting for forbidden knowledge and vampyric ascension. As he ultimately finds what he seeks and by the completion of profane and horrific rituals he finally transforms into an immortal ruler of darkness, blood and death. Breaking out of the forsaken depths of the netherrealm he unleashes unspoken horrors upon mankind - creating the primordial vampyric coven under the light of a blood moon. A

The album was once again recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mario Dahmen / Liquid Aether Audio. With the raw intensity and epic structure already present in their previous works, Age of Eternal Night stands out with an even denser atmosphere and a refined sonic balance. The production captures both the ferocious power of their Black Metal roots and the majestic, dark melodic grandeur that defines SUMERIAN TOMBS. ZÉRO ABSOLU is the band formerly known as Glaciation.

Glaciation was a project founded in 2011 by François Duguest (instruments) and Jean Valnoir Simoulin (Vocals, art direction).
The group then expanded to include Hugo Moerman (who became the 3rd permanent member of the group), the two main members of Alcest, and Lychar.

In 2012, they released the album «1994».The lyrics nostalgically and bitterly revisit Valnoir’s experience within the Black Metal scene throughout the 90s.

Valnoir temporarily left the band in 2014 and was replaced by RMS Hreidmarr.

Anch’essi svedesi, di Stoccolma, i giovani musicisti incarnano a tutti gli effetti un tributo alla gloriosa scena death metal locale. Il loro primo full-length può essere in effetti visto come una sorta di bigino di tutto ciò che è swedish death metal, con richiami ai grandi classici che in qualche occasione si configurano a tutti gli effetti come dei veri e propri omaggi.
Fin dalla prima traccia, “Denial of Clarity”, è infatti evidente quanto gli Impurity abbiano interiorizzato i pilastri dello storico sound della loro città: il riff centrale, che richiama esplicitamente “Dreaming in Red” dei Dismember, stabilisce subito un legame diretto con il glorioso passato. I riferimenti a “Indecent & Obscene” sono peraltro disseminati tra le trame dell’album, con quell’attento mix tra groove, melodia e forza scardinatrice che rimanda tantissimo al secondo album dei maestri.
Anche i Carnage trovano spazio in questa celebrazione: “Ancient Remains”, con la sua durata contenuta e l’urgenza feroce, sembra rifarsi in tutto a un disco come “Dark Recollections”. L’omaggio non si limita però alla violenza sonora: sulle arie di “Lament to the Lost One”, una algida traccia acustica posta come intermezzo, la mente torna infatti a “Where No Life Dwells” degli Unleashed, facendoci comprendere come gli Impurity abbiano provato ad esplorare anche atmosfere più malinconiche e riflessive in questo loro debut album.
Tra tutti questi rimandi, non possono ovviamente mancare i padri Nihilist/Entombed, evocati soprattutto dal timbro vocale del cantante/chitarrista Ville Esbjörn, che qui sembra un misto tra il primo LG Petrov e Nicke Andersson.
