The content of the debut album is characterized by personal strife for spiritual gnosis that goes far beyond the cosmic reality.

From the deep woods now emerges Birna, Wardruna’s sixth studio album.

Through his never resting dialogue with nature, main composer Einar Selvik has been searching for the voice of the bear. Birna – the she-bear in Old Norse – is a work of art dedicated to the warden of the forest, nature’s caretaker, and her battles here on earth. Slowly driven out of her habitat by modern day societies, she has entered a stage of permanent hibernation. As a result, the forest is gradually dying, longing for its pulse and heart – its shepherd. Birna calls for her return.

This album is a selection of live recordings taken between the years 2013 - 2022. It includes every song that at any point had been part of the live setlist. Each song comes from a different performance. Source material varies in fidelity and so does the sound. Selection serves to adequately represent the live iteration of Mgła and emphasize qualities present: increased aggression, palpable anxiety, tension and darkness.

Recorded and mixed by O.H.R and mastered by Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio (Behemoth,
Dopelord, Christ Agony etc), Raw Illumination is the sonic distillation of caustic chaos and grim,
unmitigated despair – every malicious note cutting straight to the bone – and its aura of desperate
degradation has been perfectly captured in the cover imagery; the artwork and layout by Danny The
Destroyer, utilising powerful, unsettling images of model Anna Iivana Julma, captured by the band.
When it crawls from the crypts of label Dusktone on November 29th, Raw Illumination will hunt down
the broken and the flawed, the outcasts and the lepers and swallow them into its maw of ice and

Established by two girls from the Dresden area, Satyra and Melpomene, both heavily involved in
the rich local underground, ALTAR OV ASTERIA was envisioned and formed through its members'
