Had GREEN CARNATION never returned from hiatus, the Norwegian bards would always be remembered for completing one of the most ambitious individual epics in metal’s historic archives. However, there was one tale — or three, to be exact — that eluded them for more than three decades. Now, after reaching crushing new highs during its opening chapter, they’re descending into deeper, darker and more personal depths with part II of ‘A Dark Poem’.
If ‘The Shores of Melancholia’ set sail from a familiar place of melancholy, then ‘Sanguis’ opens with GREEN CARNATION far out at sea, fighting to stay afloat against the storm that’s raging in their minds. Over the course of nine minutes, the album’s epic title track vows to forgive and forget familial wreckage, washing away the bloody stains of the past with impassioned cleans and a chorus that radiates conviction — only for a traumatic memory to come flooding back during its doomy coda. The newfound heaviness from the first part of ‘A Dark Poem’ continues to age like a fine wine, balancing sweet meaty riffs with an underlying bitterness. “I Am Time” demands immediate recognition with a guitar melody that winds like the winds of change. But part II reveals the band at their most raw with ballads that unfold with the grace of a wilted flower.
“The end justifies the means, you’ll see”, Kjetil Nordhus sings with an eerily quiet confidence. As its final tale seeps beneath the moonlight, ‘Sanguis’ leaves fans hanging in suspense over where this trilogy will end.

For over 25 years now, Sargeist - led by erstwhile HORNA guitarist / songwriter Shatraug, who's arguably the most prolific metal musician of that same period - have been at the forefront of the ever-fertile Finnish black metal scene. In fact, alongside HORNA, one could say that SARGEIST are the most influential band of that scene, which has gone on to influence countless other worldwide scenes in this millennium.
As has been the way since 2018's significant Unbound full-length, which saw the arrival of erstwhile Nightbringer / Demoncy guitarist VJS among others, Flame Within Flame also sees the arrival of more new members: longtime HORNA frontman Spellgoth on bass and prolific drummer Nur-i-siyah, who's played with Nawaharjan and Decapitated Christ among others. And while that "classic" SARGEIST lineup that included longstanding co-conspirators Torog and Horns (vocals and drums, respectively) certainly set an enviably high standard, Shatraug and crew continue undaunted, arguably more invigorated than ever. Indeed, Flame Within Flame is presciently titled, for the band's spirit is unextinguishable and unquenchable, seemingly infinite in inspiration whilst remaining characteristically - and DEADLY - focused. From the album's opening seconds, this is classic, burning-with-desperation SARGEIST, but immerse thyself in its icily shimmering waters ever so deeper and one will find that there's an almost-melancholic touch to Shatraug & VJS's riff-sorcery. What results is perhaps the band's most atmospheric record to date - credit, too, to the spacious-yet-immediate production - but one still pulsing with ragged, burning-black emotion: truly, the enduring hallmark of SARGEIST's eternal aesthetic. Of especial note is Shatraug resuming vocals, which he hasn't done since the band's early demo days. Return, once again, to misery and comfort with Flame Within Flame!

Following the successful launch of the comprehensive reissue campaign for the precious musical legacy of Sweden's pioneering melodic death metal band Edge of Sanity, which began in 2024, the final titles of the fourth and final chapter are now set to be released in spring 2026.
Led by the band's vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and acclaimed metal producer Dan Swanö (Opeth, Katatonia, Dissection, Bloodbath, Nightingale, etc.), Edge of Sanity's entire catalogue has been fully remastered and partly remixed by Swanö himself. It will finally be extensively available again in several attractive versions.
Cryptic, Edge of Sanity's 1997 death metal album featuring the then-new vocalist Robert Karlsson (Scar Symmetry, Pan.Thy.Monium, Facebreaker, Darkified), who replaced Dan Swanö, is finally available again as a remastered version on CD and LP.
The UK’s Black Metal forerunners, WINTERFYLLETH make a stand with The Unyielding Season, coming March 27, 2026 via Napalm Records. Their ninth album is a social commentary wrapped in meticulously crafted poetry and prose. Where the preceding album, The Imperious Horizon (2024), described an ominous, malevolent force, lurking in the distance, The Unyielding Season now explores said threat becoming a reality. The raging wildfire to its predecessor’s calculating, icy cold, WINTERFYLLETH’s first offering for their new record label is a reflection and a rebellion against the turmoils tearing individuals apart. It is a cry against the unsustainable weight of fear and pressure being pushed into the world, by the agents of a unresting, and unyielding force for evil.
