Batushka's 2019 Opus Returns: The Liturgy of Death Re-released!

Back on Black is proud to announce the comprehensive reissue of Hospodi (Church Slavonic for "Lord"), the second full-length album from the Polish black metal phenomenon, Batushka. Initially released in 2019, Hospodi represents a more polished, melodic, and theatrical evolution of the band's signature, ritualistic sound.

Based on the Eastern Orthodox "Liturgy of Death" and traditional funeral rites, the album is a thematic journey through death and judgment. This reissue brings back the ten-track masterpiece, which blends traditional black metal (tremolo riffs, ferocious blast beats) with haunting choirs, atmospheric ambient interludes, and profound Slavic chants.

Hospodi was lauded for its dramatic production, and this reissue shines a light on key tracks like the atmospheric opener "Wozglas," the rocking-yet-menacing "Wieczernia," and the powerful closer "Liturgiya".

The UK’s Black Metal forerunners, WINTERFYLLETH make a stand with The Unyielding Season, coming March 27, 2026 via Napalm Records. Their ninth album is a social commentary wrapped in meticulously crafted poetry and prose. Where the preceding album, The Imperious Horizon (2024), described an ominous, malevolent force, lurking in the distance, The Unyielding Season now explores said threat becoming a reality. The raging wildfire to its predecessor’s calculating, icy cold, WINTERFYLLETH’s first offering for their new record label is a reflection and a rebellion against the turmoils tearing individuals apart. It is a cry against the unsustainable weight of fear and pressure being pushed into the world, by the agents of a unresting, and unyielding force for evil.

Longstanding Norwegian band Darkthrone started in 1986, originally under the name of Black Death, before their final infamous moniker was introduced. Although becoming known the world over as a black metal band crucial to the lasting legacy of the genre, Darkthrone began more as an extreme metal band utilising elements of thrash, death & doom metal into their early compositions.

With the core classic line-up of Gylve Nagell (Drums), Ted Skjellum (Guitars/vocals), Ivar Enger (Guitars) & Dag Nilsen (Bass) & presented for the first time on standalone vinyl (having previously only featured in the long sold-out ‘Shadows Of Iconoclasm’ boxset), ‘As Wolves Among Sheep…’ Live in Oslo ’90 sees the Norwegian quartet still in their formative years at the legendary Bootleg, playing a collection of material from their demos (which were to be included on the ‘Soulside Journey’ debut album), along with rare performances of tracks which would eventually surface on the intended but then abandoned follow-up, ‘Goatlord’.

The vinyl contains audio sourced from a digital transfer from the original master tapes courtesy of the Bootleg TV archive, with mastering work carried out by Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony.

This edition of ‘As Wolves Among Sheep…’ is presented on limited Petrol coloured vinyl for Record Store Day 2026 & includes a printed inner sleeve with photos & lyrics.

Uncompromising Dutch Black Metal – DOODSWENS’ sophomore album out in April via Svart Records

Doodswens is a Dutch Black Metal band formed in 2017 by I. Live she performs the drums and vocals, joined by R. & P. on bass and guitar. Doodswens translates to Deathwish, but the meaning and heavy load to the word in Dutch translates better to Driven by Death. The self-titled sophomore album by Doodswens is out on April 17^th 2026.

After establishing themselves in the Dutch scene, Doodswens gained an international following doing tours with Marduk & Gorgoroth. Doodswens’ performances are ceremonial and ritualistic, which have been reported to be as uplifting as they are devastating, depending on the demons you bring them to offer. Whatever you carry with you will be exposed. They like to confront instead of bringing comfort.
