“The Storm” offers a first glimpse of Armagedda’s forthcoming fifth album, STORM OF EVIL: two new recordings pressed into seven-inch form, pairing the title track with the exclusive “The Sermon Never Heard”. 

Following “Svindeldjup ättestup” (2020), Armagedda once again turns toward older bones. These songs draw a line back through the torn austerity of the band’s origins, the heavier, death-inflected pulse that emerged around “Only True Believers”, and the sickly spiritual oppression later perfected on “Ond spiritism”. Yet the result is not retrospective. It is a further descent, carried by the same adversarial will under a harsher and more immediate guise.

Conjured at Necromorbus Studio in October 2025 alongside Tore Stjerna, “Storm of Evil” stands as a premonition of what is to come: grave-bound, accusatory black metal with the stench of old death in its breath. No mourners. No prayers. Only the sermon never heard.

Skuggor, the solo project of M., an Australian multi-instrumentalist based in northern Sweden, draws its essence from the meeting point between the physical and the transcendental. Deep forests and snow-covered terrain are not merely backdrops, but gateways – spaces where hypnotic states and introspection take hold. On “The Expanse”, this duality comes into sharp focus: the beauty of the northern landscape set against an undercurrent of solitude and quiet desolation.

The foundation was laid somewhere along the long, winding road between M.’s home in Moskosel and the Nordvis headquarters in Arvidsjaur – a woodland stretch largely untouched by modern intrusions. Written to accompany that journey, “The Expanse” takes shape as a series of impressions formed by both the beauty and the unforgiving nature of the environment. While echoes of Burzum, Agalloch, Urfaust, and Drudkh can be sensed throughout, Skuggor reshapes these influences into something distinctly its own.

Musically, the album moves between organic synthesiser passages and harsh, fuzz-laden guitars, with vocals that feel improvised and immediate – less bound to language than to emotion. The result is fluid and instinctive, allowing each composition to emerge as a natural extension of atmosphere rather than rigid structure. Minimalism here is mainly expressed through restraint: repetition, pacing, and subtle shifts that draw the listener deeper into the sound.

This winter & historical Black Metal is true Marchigian Black Metal!
“Picenum (True Marchigian Black Metal Renaissance)“ is the natural continuation of “Fra Li Monti Sibillini”, expanding its concept to the entire Marche region (the title Picenum indicates the ancient name for a large part of this region). The album is set mostly in the late Middle Ages but also at the beginning of the Renaissance (here highlighted in its darker sides, experienced through the darkness of my region and the places where I was born).
After a brief intro about the region’s ancient origins, the album is divided into 3 parts:
• The first is dedicated to the history and the very dark legends of the region Marche: the Da Varano Lords who rebelled against the Church by joining the Cursed League in 1375; the history and legend of the Rocca di Pitino (Pitino Fortress) and its deconsecrated church and cemetery; the history and legend of the very dark Roccaccia (The Ugly Fortress) and its warlord necromancer, a servant of the devil.
• The second is dedicated to the folklore and legends of my region: lu lupu mannà (the Marchigian werewolf), the Mazzamurello (a dark Marchigian sprite), the Sdrega (the Marchigian witch), before returning once again to the Sibilline Mountains... In this part, Hesperus’ grandmother’s voice (R.I.P.) narrates these folklore legends a couple of times (she knew quite a few). Here a bigger amount of Marchigian dialect than italian (more than Fra li Monti Sibillini)
• The third and longest part is, in fact, a continuation that closes the circle with the previous album, and the part is “Ritorno fra li monti Sibillini” (Return to the Sibilline Mountains), with two tracks focusing on the goat-fairies and the Sibylla, and another two tracks that speak of the geographical novel of the Chevalier De la Sale, a real historical figure who was tasked with exploring the Sibilline Mountains and understanding what was inside the Sibylla’s cave (thus, not a knight from an epic poem like in the previous album); he truly met the inhabitants of Montemonaco (Mons Daemoniacus) who led him to the vestibule of the Sibylla’s cave (on the summit of Monte Sibilla)
and told him numerous stories of those who entered the cave, including that of a German knight who returned because he was not forgiven by the Church and remained there... forever (the last track: the final 12’ suite).
Stylistically, the album has many similarities with the previous record (a Mediaval Black Metalin the vein of ‘90s) but adds some Renaissance parts and some ‘80s proto Black Metal passages.

As you will notice, there are folk/ambient interludes as in the previous album, but they are not on separate tracks; they are at the end of each track (incorporated into the tracks even if they appear in the tracklist).

THE EPIC NEW STUDIO ALBUM FROM THE LONG-STANDING JAPANESE METAL PIONEERS, INCLUDING GUEST APPEARANCE FROM OPETH'S MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT.

Japanese metal pioneers Sigh formed in 1989/1990. Their genre-classic Black Metal debut ‘Scorn Defeat’ arrived in 1993, & with a subsequent journey through the strange & the psychedelic, incorporating a whole eclectic mix of genre styles & ideas throughout their career, Sigh has remained a vital creative force in the avantgarde field whilst maintaining their old school roots, as witnessed on the 2022 album (& first for Peaceville Records), ‘Shiki’. This was followed by the remaking of their ‘Hangman’s Hymn’ album as part of the band’s 35th anniversary celebrations, in the shape of ‘I Saw The World’s End: Hangman’s Hymn MMXXV’ (2025).

Considered as somewhat of a natural evolution, yet an even more diverse leap over the already compositionally & dynamically accomplished ‘Shiki’ opus, Sigh returns with ‘Goh-ka’; a new highlight of atmosphere, technical mastery, & meticulously arranged epics of metallic grandeur.

Main-man Mirai Kawashima notes this as being as equally personal an album as ‘Shiki’, both musically & lyrically. From a musical perspective, if you were to place the main ingredients of Celtic Frost, Voivod, Black Sabbath, horror movies & Japan into a cauldron & stir it, you will get ‘Goh-ka’. Numerous additional spices such as psychedelic rock, prog rock & classical music are also evident over the album’s close to one-hour duration.

The primary theme permeating the album is Kuso-zu; a series of Buddhist paintings or illustrations depicting the nine stages of a human body's decomposition after death, created to encourage meditation on the impermanence of life, the inevitability of death, & the detachment from physical beauty & worldly attachment. It openly shows the harsh reality that no matter how beautiful you are, you’ll be dead & rot sooner or later. And Kuso-shi is a poem based on these paintings. The artworks on the cover & in the booklet of ‘Goh-ka’ are therefore Kuso-zu themselves.

Among the additional contributors to the album, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth notably delivers a special guest guitar solo on the track, ‘Unputenpu’.
